Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Crash – Bridgeville

BridgevilleDelaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Friday morning on Atlanta Road east of Sandhill Road.

On Friday, December 17, 2021, at approximately 7:24 a.m., a 2021 Toyota Corolla operated by a 20-year-old male of Federalsburg, MD, was traveling eastbound on Atlanta Road, negotiating a slight right curve. At this time, a 2021 fully loaded cement Mack Granite truck operated by 53-year-old male, of Bridgeville, DE, was traveling westbound in the same vicinity. Due to unknown circumstances, the Toyota failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the westbound lane directly into the path of the cement truck.  The cement truck attempted to avoid the collision by braking, however the front of the Toyota struck the front of the Mack truck in a head-on collision.  The cement truck pushed the Toyota a short distance backwards in a westerly direction before coming to a rest. Immediately after the collision both the Toyota and the cement truck became engulfed in flames.

The 20-year-old male, who was properly restrained, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin..

The 53-year-old operator of the cement truck was uninjured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 6 hours while the investigation was completed and the roadway was cleared.

The investigation remains on-going. Troopers Investigating Attempted Carjacking – Wilmington

Claymont – The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that took place in a Walgreen’s parking lot Thursday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., Thursday, December 16, 2021, in the parking lot of Walgreens, located at 802 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington. Investigation determined three male suspects approached a 41-year-old female victim while she was closing the trunk of her vehicle parked outside of the store. One of the suspects demanded the victim’s keys while displaying a handgun. The victim complied, and ran back inside of the Walgreens for help. Troopers arrived on scene, and discovered the victim’s vehicle was still in the parking lot, however the suspects had fled with the car keys. Further investigation revealed the suspects fled on foot towards Duncan Road.

The suspects were described as three black males, approximately 20-25 years old, wearing all dark clothing. There are no surveillance images available at this time.

Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash – Wilmington

WilmingtonDelaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Thursday evening on southbound Route 141 in the area of Interstate 95.

On Thursday, December 16, 2021, at approximately 5:39 p.m., a 2017 Ford F-450 operated by a 52-year-old male of Smyrna, DE, was traveling in the right lane of southbound Route 141, just south of Exit 3B to I-95 southbound.  At this time, a 40-year-old female of Newark, DE, was walking along the southbound shoulder of Route 141 in the area of Exit #3B. The pedestrian entered the roadway to pick an object up, directly into the Ford’s path of travel. The Ford struck the pedestrian in the right lane of travel which threw her in a southernly direction, towards the shoulder of the roadway.

The 40-year-old pedestrian who was not wearing any reflective material and not carrying a light, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment on her part is pending a toxicology analysis by the Division of Forensic Science. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 52-year-old operator of the Ford was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was completed and the roadway was cleared.

*Attempt To Identify* Delaware State Police Attempt to Identify Shoplifting Turned Robbery Suspects – Newark

Newark– The Delaware State Police are attempting to identify two suspects involved in a shoplifting turned robbery, which occurred at the Home Depot yesterday afternoon.

On December 15th, 2021, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a male suspect, and a female suspect entered the Home Depot, located at 1301 Churchmans Road, removed multiple home camera systems from the shelves, and attempted to exit the store without paying for the merchandise. While exiting the store, two loss prevention employees attempted to stop them. Both suspects resisted and pepper sprayed the employees. One of the employees was sprayed in the chest, and did not sustain any injuries. The other employee was sprayed in the face, and was treated by EMS. The suspects fled the scene in an older model white SUV with dark tinted windows in an unknown direction.

The male suspect is described as a black male, heavy build, approximately 40-years of age, approximately 5’9″ wearing dark colored clothing, and a mask.

The female suspect is described as a black female, heavy build, approximately 40-years of age, approximately 5’4″, wearing a dark colored jacket, white shirt, dark pants, and a mask.

State Police Issue Traffic Advisory for Wreaths Across America Convoy

New Castle County – The Delaware State Police are issuing a traffic advisory in New Castle County for Thursday, December 16, 2021, as Wreaths Across America will be entering into Delaware from Pennsylvania.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., the convoy of trucks and support vehicles will enter Delaware on I-95 southbound from Pennsylvania and merge onto I-495. They will travel southbound on I-495 to Exit 5 and turn right at the top of the ramp onto southbound Philadelphia Pike. The convoy make its first stop at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church located at 3200 Philadelphia Pike.

The convoy will depart Holy Rosary Church at approximately 12:00 p.m. from Cathedral Avenue northbound and turn left onto Governor Printz Boulevard followed by a right onto Philadelphia Pike. The convoy will then turn onto I-495 southbound and travel to I-95 southbound where it will exit onto SR-273 westbound. It will make an immediate right onto Harmony Road and continue to SR-2 (Kirkwood Highway) and turn right. The convoy will turn onto Pike Creek Road and then make a right into Saint Mark’s High School for a scheduled stop.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., the Wreaths convoy will depart Saint Mark’s H.S. and go back to SR-2 where it will turn left and travel eastbound to SR-7 (Limestone Road). At SR-7, the convoy will travel southbound and merge onto SR-1. From there, it will continue southbound on SR-1 to Exit 136 (SR-299, Middletown Odessa Road) into Middletown. The convoy will make a left onto South Catherine Street and then right onto East Green Street and continue straight across Broad Street to the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown for a scheduled stop.

Wreaths Across America will depart the fire house at approximately 4:00 p.m. on South Scott Street by turning right out of the parking lot and then make a left turn onto West Main Street toward SR-299 (Middletown Warwick Road). At SR-299, the convoy will turn left and travel southbound to Warwick Road where it will merge onto US-301 southbound to the Maryland State Line where Maryland State Police and allied police agencies will take over the escort.

Law enforcement officers and DelDOT will be controlling the intersections along the route. Please use caution if you are traveling in the area of the convoy during the specified times.

The fleet of 18-wheelers and support vehicles will be enroute to Arlington National Cemetery, where 400,000 veterans and family members are interred. This year’s wreath laying will take place on Saturday, December 18, 2021.

The mission of National Wreaths Across America Day, To Remember, Honor and Teach, is carried out by wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 2,500 locations across the United States, at sea, and abroad.

Delaware State Police Investigating Robbery of Gas Station- Newark

Newark– Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area gas station that occurred this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:32 a.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at the Getty gas station, located at 1147 Christiana Road, Newark, when troopers responded to an armed robbery. Investigation determined a male suspect entered the store and confronted a male employee behind the sales counter. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register. The employee complied and the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash from two registers. The suspect then forced the employee to the safe, had him open it, and instructed the victim to turn away and get on his knees. The employee complied and the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe. The suspect fled the business in a northwest direction, across Route 273. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male approximately 20-30 years-old wearing a black jacket, black pants, light-colored shoes, and a mask.
