Traffic Advisory State Troopers Investigating Serious Crash – Millsboro

Millsboro – Delaware State Police are on the scene of a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1:11 p.m. this afternoon, Monday January 17,2022, on Hollyville Road south of Harmony Cemetery Road.

As a result of the crash, Hollyville Road between Harmony Cemetery Road and Lawson Road is closed with emergency response vehicles on scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel. The road closure is anticipated to be lengthy, with no estimated time for a re-opening.

State Police Detectives Investigate Shooting – Hartly

Hartly – Delaware State Police Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred late Saturday night sending one victim to the hospital.

The investigation began around 11:43 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022, when an area hospital called the Kent County Emergency Operations Center advising there was a male subject in the Emergency Room with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Troopers responded to the hospital and made contact with a neighbor that drove the 25-year-old male victim to the E.R. The neighbor informed the troopers that the victim was working on a vehicle parked outside the victim’s home in the 6000 block of Halltown Road when he was struck by gunfire from someone that drove by in an unknown make and model vehicle. The neighbor also heard the gunshots and was contacted by the victim who ran to the neighbor’s house after he was shot.

At this point in the investigation, there is no suspect description and the vehicle could only be described as a black passenger car.

This incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Criminal Investigation Unit. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective P. Collision Reconstruction Units Seek Assistance with Fatal Hit and Runs

Delaware – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Units (CRU) based throughout the State are seeking the assistance with Cold Case Fatal Hit and Runs.

The following are six cold case investigations the units have been working to solve, but have not had any leads or further information provided over the course of the years.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash with Bicyclist-Dover – (May 4, 2017)

This incident occurred around 11:48 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 as an unknown driver operating a dark sedan southbound on McKee Road approached Kevin S. Freese, 52 of Dover, who was riding his bicycle in the same direction. The vehicle approached the bicycle from the rear and struck the bicycle’s rear tire which caused the victim to be ejected and come to rest on the grassy shoulder along the southbound lane. The dark sedan fled the scene in a southern direction.

Kevin S. Freese, who was not wearing a bicycle helmet, was transported to the Bayhealth Kent General Hospital Emergency Room where he succumbed to his injuries.

Troopers investigating the collision were able to recover a piece of hood molding and matched the part number to a GMC Envoy between the years of 2002-2009. Witnesses on the scene described the vehicle as a small dark SUV which is concurrent with the part recovered.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Pedestrian Crash- Wilmington – (December 24, 2018)

The investigation determined that at approximately 9:02 p.m., Monday, December 24, 2018, two pedestrians were walking northbound on DE Rt. 141 (Centre Rd.) within the right turn lane for DE Rt. 48 (Lancaster Pike). An unknown make and model vehicle traveling northbound on DE 141 in the right turn lane struck both pedestrians from behind, approximately 400’ south of the intersection with DE 48.

One pedestrian, a 37 year old Wilmington man, was thrown into a ditch off the east side of the roadway. He was evaluated by EMS on scene and refused medical treatment.

The second pedestrian, 32 year old Bryan K. Lott of Philadelphia PA, was thrown into the roadway where he came to rest in the right thru lane of DE 141 northbound. He was transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Early into the investigation, the fleeing vehicle could only be described as being dark gray in color and should be missing the passenger side mirror. Detectives now believe the vehicle may be a GMC SUV or Pickup or a Chevrolet SUV or Pickup between the years 1998-2005. It will still be missing the passenger side mirror and may also be missing the pictured license plate ornament.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance In Fatal Hit and Run Crash Involving Pedestrian-Georgetown – (December 23, 2019)

The incident occurred on Monday, December 23, 2019, at approximately 8:11 p.m., when an unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on Zoar Road west of Fieldwood Drive and struck 44-year-old Katrina M. Hudson, of Millsboro, who was walking in the westbound travel lane of Zoar Road. The suspect vehicle continued traveling westbound on Zoar Road and fled the scene in an unknown direction. Hudson was pronounced deceased at the collision scene.

There have not been any leads or description of the vehicle involved in this case. Troopers Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Crash Involving a Pedestrian- Newark – (August 11, 2020)

The crash occurred on August 11, 2020, at approximately 1:06 a.m., when an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound Ogletown Stanton Road (Rt. 4), East of Churchmans Road. Aleesha Lingafelt, 27 of New Castle, was walking in the right travel lane of eastbound Ogletown Stanton Road and was struck by the vehicle. The unknown vehicle did not stop after the collision.

27-year-old Aleesha Lingafelt of New Castle, DE, was transported by EMS to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Troopers investigating this crash have determined the striking vehicle is red would have had noticeable front end damage.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Crash Involving a Pedestrian- Georgetown – (November 5, 2020)

The incident occurred on November 5, 2020, at approximately 6:34 a.m., when a vehicle traveling eastbound on County Seat Highway, just west of Old Furnace Road, was approaching a slight curve. The pedestrian, a 49-year-old Jamal L. Woodlin of Lincoln, was walking eastbound on the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle failed to negotiate the curve in the road and drove onto the shoulder, striking Woodlin with the right front. He was projected down an embankment, landing in a shallow ditch. The vehicle did not stop for the collision.

Through the investigation, a possible vehicle involved in the collision is a white Ford E-Series van with right front damage. The picture shown is similar to the suspect vehicle.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance With Solving Fatal Pedestrian Collision- Wilmington – (September 8, 2021)

On September 8, 2021, at approximately 4:14 a.m., troopers received a report of a pedestrian located in the right thru northbound lane of DE SR 100 (South DuPont Road), within the area of the intersection with Taft Avenue. The investigation determined an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on DE SR 100 in the right thru travel lane when it struck the pedestrian. The vehicle continued traveling northbound towards the intersection of DE SR 100 and Faulkland Road to an unknown destination.

The victim identified as Jason Gooden, 34, of Wilmington was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

State Police Governor’s Task Force Net Home Invasion Suspect Near Harbeson

Harbeson – Two men were arrested for possession of drugs after a traffic stop near Harbeson Thursday afternoon and one of the men was wanted for home invasion.

On Thursday January 13, 2022 around 4:00 p.m., members of the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force (G.T.F.) assisted the First State Fugitive Task Force and Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T.) with locating and apprehending Jhareed A. Ayers, 21 of Lewes, who was wanted by Troop 4 Major Crimes for a Home Invasion involving a firearm as well as an Aggravated Menacing complaint involving a gun out of Troop 7.

During surveillance efforts in the Lewes area, Ayers was identified as a rear seat passenger in a black Hyundai Elantra being driven by an 18-year-old female on Lewes Georgetown Highway. The vehicle pulled into the parking lot of the Dollar General located at 28168 Lewes Georgetown Highway, where Ayers was taken into custody without incident. Once in custody, Ayers was found to be in possession of 117 bags of heroin (0.819 grams) and approximately 2.69 grams of crack cocaine.

The front seat passenger, Jaliel Perry, 18 of Lincoln, was found to be wanted on three failure to appear capiases issued by Sussex Family Court. He was also taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of approximately 2.08 grams of crack cocaine along with one ecstasy pill.

Ayers and Perry were both transported to Troop 7 in Lewes where Ayers was charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was also arrested for an incident that occurred on December 16, 2021 in which he and two other suspects unlawfully entered a residence in the 17000 block of Needle Drive, Lewes. Once inside, they confronted a 57-year-old male victim with a handgun and struck him in the back of the head before fleeing the house with a safe that contained over $1,500.00 cash. At the time of the incident, three juveniles, ages 7, 4 and 3, were all in the house. In this incident he was charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Burglary 1st (Home Invasion), Aggravated Menacing, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited, Theft over $1500, Conspiracy 2nd, and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. None of the victims were injured.

Ayers was also arrested for Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Aggravated Menacing, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited, and Offensive Touching stemming from a December 22, 2021 incident that took place in the 19000 block of Duffy Street in West Rehoboth. Jhareed Ayers is alleged to force a 53-year-old male standing outside that location at gunpoint to knock on the door to the residence. When a nearby car alarm went off, Ayers and a second unknown male left the area in a dark colored SUV. The male victim was uninjured in the incident.

Jhareed Ayers was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $353,300 total cash bond for all listed charges.

Jaliel Perry was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was issued a $10,400 unsecured bond on the drug charges but was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $800 secured bond due to his outstanding capiases.

The 18-year-old female driver was released from the scene without being charged.

One of the suspects involved in the home invasion on Needle Drive has been identified as James R. Ayers, 20 of Lewes. He has not been arrested and detectives are currently searching for him. A third suspect has yet to be identified. Anyone with information on James Ayers location is asked to contact Detective C. Simpson at 302-752-3855. Troopers Investigating Robbery of East Wilmington Area Self Storage

Wilmington (19802) – Troopers are investigating a robbery of an area self storage business that occurred Friday afternoon.

The incident took place around 5:40 p.m., Friday January 14, 2022, at the Sentinel Self Storage (333 E. Lea Boulevard) as a male subject confronted an employee in the office of the business. The suspect was armed with an unknown type handgun and demanded money from the safe. The employee complied with the demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the store on foot. The employee was not injured in the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, 20-35 years of age, 6’00” – 6’02” tall, wearing all black clothing and a mask covering his face (no further physical or clothing description). He was armed with an unknown type handgun.

Troopers Investigate Shooting Incident- Lincoln

Lincoln, DE- Delaware State Police investigate a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning in Lincoln.

On January 9, 2022, at approximately 1:55 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the 19000 block of Bunting Ave. for a residence shot by gunfire. The investigation determined three adult residents were inside the home when an unknown suspect shot one round at the residence. The bullet entered the home through an exterior wall into a bedroom where one of the residents was sleeping, continued traveling through an interior wall, and became lodged into a hallway ceiling. None of the residents were injured during the incident.

The Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this incident. UPDATE- Victim Identified Troopers Arrest Dover Man for Murder- Dover

Dover, DE-Delaware State Police have identified Debra Leonard, 67, of Dover, as the homicide victim killed on January 7, 2022.

At approximately 7:19 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Harriet Street for reports of a shooting. Kyle Leonard called 9-1-1 and advised he had shot and killed his mother inside the home. Leonard was contacted in the front yard and taken into custody without incident. Troopers located Debra Leonard deceased inside from an apparent gunshot wound.
