Troopers Investigate Shooting Incident Outside Wilmington Area Liquor Store

Wilmington, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred outside a Wilmington area liquor store Friday night.

On February 11, 2022, at approximately 7:38 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Christiana Hospital for an individual who arrived at the Emergency Room with an apparent gunshot wound. The investigation determined the 24-year-old New Castle woman was traveling southbound on Newport Gap Pike when she parked on the right shoulder, directly in front of Ted’s Liquors, located at 1202 Newport Gap Pike. While still sitting inside her vehicle, a dark-colored SUV traveling southbound on Newport Gap Pike slowly drove by. At the same time, the front passenger leaned out the SUV’s window and fired multiple rounds in the direction of her vehicle before continuing to travel southbound on Newport Gap Pike. The victim fled the area and was transported by a private vehicle to the hospital. She sustained two non-life-threatening graze wounds to her arm and abdomen during the shooting.

An investigation at the scene was conducted, and multiple shell casings were located outside of Ted’s Liquors.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored SUV. There is currently no suspect description or surveillance photographs available.

*UPDATE- FATAL CRASH* Delaware State Police Investigating Serious Injury Pedestrian Crash

Bear, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Friday night in Bear.

On February 11, 2022, at approximately 6:59 p.m., a 2016 Land Rover SUV was traveling southbound on Summit Bridge Rd. (DE-896) in the right lane approaching Madelyn Dr. The driver, a 46-year-old man from Bear, initiated a lane change into the right turn lane for westbound Madelyn Dr. At this location, the right shoulder transitions to a bicycle lane and a right turn lane. The bicycle lane separates the right thru lane from the right turn lane. As the Land Rover entered the right turn lane, the left front of the SUV struck a 49-year-old female pedestrian, who was walking in the area of the bicycle lane. After the pedestrian was struck, she came to rest in the right travel lane. A vehicle approaching in the right lane was able to swerve into the left lane to avoid striking the injured pedestrian in the roadway. A 2018 Toyota Rav 4 operated by a 73-year-old Allentown, PA, man was traveling in the right thru lane directly behind the vehicle and could not avoid striking the victim. Both cars pulled over and remained at the collision scene after the collision.

The 49-year-old female pedestrian from Townsend, DE, was wearing dark clothing and not carrying a light. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the collision scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The 46-year-old Bear man operating the Land Rover SUV was not injured during the collision.

The 73-year-old Allentown, PA, man operating the Toyota Rav 4 was not injured during the collision. There were also two passengers in the Toyota who were not injured.

During the on-scene investigation, southbound DE-896 between Porter Rd and Denny Rd was closed to vehicular traffic for approximately 3 hours.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Delaware State Police Investigating Serious Injury Pedestrian Crash

Bear, DE- Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious injury accident involving a pedestrian. As a result, southbound Summit Bridge Road in the area of Madelyn Drive will be closed for an extended period of time. Motorists are urged to seek an alternate route of travel to avoid delays.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance Locating Wanted Man

Sussex County, DE- Delaware State Police seek the public’s assistance locating Clifford W. David Jr., 31, of Greenwood, who is wanted on multiple warrants and capiases out of Sussex County. 

David is currently wanted on multiple warrants out of Delaware State Police Troop 5 for thefts of motor vehicles and burglary. In addition, he is an absconder from Sussex County Home Confinement and has active capiases out of Sussex County Court of Common Pleas and Superior Court. 

David is described as a white male, 6′ 00″ tall, 235 lbs., brown hair, and blue eyes. He may currently be located in the western part of Sussex County.

Delaware State Police Investigate Homicide Outside a Bear Area Gym

Bear, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a homicide that occurred Thursday night outside a Bear area gym.

On February 10, 2022, at approximately 9:41 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to the parking lot of LA Fitness, located at 900 Eden Circle, for reports of a shooting. The investigation determined the 22-year-old male victim from New Castle, exited LA Fitness and was approaching his vehicle in the parking lot when an unknown suspect approached and began shooting at the victim. Multiple spent shell casings were recovered from the scene.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

There is no suspect information at this time.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash– New Castle

New CastleDelaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Wednesday night on eastbound Frenchtown Road (Route 273) in the area of Quigley Boulevard.

On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at approximately 5:58 p.m., a 21-year-old female pedestrian was walking eastbound on the right shoulder of eastbound Route 273 towards Quigley Blvd. At this time, a dark colored SUV traveling eastbound on Route 273, entered the right shoulder to pass stopped traffic on Route 273 eastbound. As a result, the front of the SUV struck the pedestrian from behind. The impact threw the pedestrian off the right edge of the roadway where she came to a rest. After impact, the SUV continued traveling eastbound possibly turning onto Quigley Blvd or continuing eastbound on Route 273 toward New Castle City.

The 21-year-old pedestrian of New Castle, DE, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.  Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was completed, and the roadway was cleared.

There are no surveillance images being released at this time.

This collision remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit. *Traffic Advisory* Troopers Investigating Serious Pedestrian Crash-New Castle

New Castle- The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 6:16 p.m., on February 09, 2022.

As a result of this crash, eastbound Frenchtown Road (Rt. 273) is closed between South DuPont Highway (Route 13) and Quigley Boulevard.

The road closure is anticipated to be lengthy, with no estimated time for a re-opening.

*UPDATE- VICTIM IDENTIFIED* Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash- Felton

Felton, DE- Delaware State Police have identified the two victims who died during a Sunday night fatal motor-vehicle crash on Irish Hill Road as Cheryl Hagens-Brandl, 36, of Magnolia and Christopher A. Tunis, 18, of Milford.  

On February 6, 2022, at approximately 6:02 p.m., a 2007 Hyundai Accent, operated by Cheryl Hagens-Brandl, was traveling eastbound on Irish Hill Road, west of Blaine Drive. At the same time, a 2010 Toyota Corolla, operated by Christopher A. Tunis, was traveling westbound on Irish Hill Road, approaching the same area as the Hyundai. Tunis was traveling directly behind a large pick-up truck as both vehicles approached each other. Tunis entered the eastbound travel lane attempting to legally pass the truck and pulled directly into the path of the Hyundai. Both vehicles attempted to avoid the collision by exiting off the south edge of the roadway but ultimately struck head-on. After impact, both cars came to rest in a field off of Irish Hill Road.

Cheryl Hagens-Brandl was not properly restrained and was pronounced deceased at the scene. There was one passenger in the Hyundai. That was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Christopher Tunis was not properly restrained and transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. There were two passengers in the Toyota who were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash investigation remains ongoing. Delaware State Police Conducting Criminal Investigation- Newark

Newark- Delaware State Police are currently conducting a criminal investigation in the parking lot of the Delaware Technical Community College- Stanton Campus located at 400 Stanton-Christiana Road, Newark.
