Troopers Arrest Subject for Theft of a Motor Vehicle

Delaware State Police have arrested 30-year-old Arkeem Adkins of Millsboro, DE for theft of a motor vehicle and other charges following a traffic stop that occurred on Saturday afternoon.

On April 23rd, 2022 at approximately 3:32 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the Dagsboro, DE area observed a black Mercedes C300 traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Iron Branch Road in the area of Bunting Road. The trooper initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on Colonial Estates Avenue east of Iron Branch Road and made contact with the operator, identified as Arkeem Adkins. Upon contacting Adkins, a strong odor of marijuana was detected emitting from the vehicle’s interior. A subsequent search of the Mercedes led to the discovery of approximately 0.078 grams of marijuana. A computer inquiry of Adkins showed that he had a suspended driver’s license and an active warrant for his arrest. Computer checks also revealed that the Mercedes C300 had been reported as stolen by Delaware State Police Troop 4 on April 21st, 2022.

Adkins was transported to Troop 4 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1,500
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Driving While Suspended / Revoked
  • Speeding

Adkins was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $500 secured bond.

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Weapon Arrest

Delaware State Police have arrested 19-year-old Dyquan Snead of Harrington, DE following a traffic stop that occurred on Thursday night.

On April 21st, 2022 at approximately 11:45 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the Lewes, DE area observed a white Nissan Altima traveling northbound on Coastal Highway in the area of Nassau Road. A computer inquiry of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the owner of the Altima, who was listed as Dyquan Snead, had a suspended driver’s license and an active warrant for his arrest. The trooper confirmed Snead was the operator, and a traffic stop was initiated. Upon contacting Snead, a strong odor of marijuana was detected emitting from the vehicle’s interior. Snead was taken into custody without incident, and a subsequent search of the Altima led to the discovery of approximately 90.19 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, over $380 in suspected drug proceeds, and a Smith & Wesson handgun with an obliterated serial number.

Snead was transported to Troop 7 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm While Possessing a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Weapon With an Obliterated Serial Number (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 2 counts
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession

Snead was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $70,500 cash bond.

One Suspect Arrested, One Remains At-Large Following Commercial Burglary

Delaware State Police have arrested 30-year-old Christian O’Leary of Lewes, DE for burglary and related charges following an investigation that began on Wednesday morning.

On April 20th, 2022 at approximately 6:00 a.m., troopers responded to the Ernest DiSabatino and Sons construction site located on W. Big Woods Road in Dover, DE regarding a burglary complaint. The ensuing investigation revealed that two subjects had broken a lock at the front gate of the site and loaded a pickup truck with approximately $20,000 worth of copper wiring. The suspects caused damage to surrounding equipment before departing from the area. Through investigative means it was determined that the two suspects were Christian O’Leary and 34-year-old Jacob Steele of Dover, DE.

Warrants were drafted for both O’Leary and Steele, charging them with the following crimes:

  • Burglary Third Degree (Felony)
  • Theft Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief Over $5,000 (Felony)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief

On April 21st, 2022, O’Leary turned himself in to Troop 7. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and released on $5,500 unsecured bond. Steele has yet to be located and remains at-large.

Troopers Arrest Suspect in Theft Investigation

Delaware State Police have arrested 35-year-old Jason Miller of New Castle, DE following a theft investigation that occurred Tuesday night.

On April 19th, 2022 at approximately 9:35 p.m., troopers responded to Reynold’s Towing, located at 3435 Wrangle Hill Road in Bear, DE regarding a report of a trespass in progress. Responding officers secured a perimeter and began canvassing the property. With the assistance of the Delaware State Police Canine and Aviation units, troopers located Jason Miller attempting to escape on the exterior of the property. Miller was taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of numerous burglar tools. The ensuing investigation revealed that Miller had breached the perimeter fence and was attempting to steal items from vehicles inside the tow yard. A computer check also revealed Miller had active warrants for theft and violation of probation.

Miller was transported to Troop 2 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Attempted Theft Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of Burglar Tools (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Criminal Trespass Second Degree

Miller was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and issued a $2,800 unsecured bond. Miller was ultimately committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $7,500 cash bond stemming from his violation of probation capias.

Delaware State Police Troop 7 Hosting Community Café

Delaware State Police Troop 7 will be hosting a Community Café on Tuesday, April 26th, 2022. The event will be held from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Long Neck Diner located at 25935 Plaza Drive, Millsboro, DE. The Community Café will have Troop 7 administration, a Community Outreach officer, a representative from the Victim Services unit, and an investigator from the Collision Reconstruction Unit in attendance to meet and interact with members of the public. This Community Café is often referred to as “Coffee with a Cop” in other police agencies and is being held in an effort to build a stronger relationship between the Delaware State Police and the communities that we so proudly serve.

Troopers Investigating Robbery of a Tow Truck

Delaware State Police are investigating a tow truck robbery that occurred in the Wilmington, DE area on Saturday evening.

On April 16th, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m., troopers on patrol in the area of the B.P. Gas station located at 708 Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington, DE observed a large number of ATV’s and dirt bikes driving erratically and creating hazardous conditions for other vehicle traffic. As troopers responded to the gas station, the operators of the ATV’s and dirt bikes began to flee the scene. One ATV was abandoned by its operator in the parking lot, and it was towed from the scene by Holly Oak tow truck company. The tow truck began transporting the ATV to its tow yard, but the driver was confronted by two subjects on Cauffiel Parkway east of Philadelphia Pike. Numerous ATV’s and dirt bikes surrounded the tow truck so the driver could not leave the scene. The two subjects then threatened to harm the tow truck driver and passenger if they did not release the vehicle to them. The subjects were eventually able to remove the ATV from the bed of the tow truck, and they fled the area with the vehicle to an unknown destination. Neither the tow truck driver nor the passenger were harmed in this incident.

Both suspects are described as black males, approximately 20-30 years of age. No further information is available at this time.

One Suspect Arrested, One Remains At-Large for Theft of a Trailer

Delaware State Police have arrested 29-year-old Jaread Mears of Laurel, DE for theft and related charges following an investigation that began in March.

On March 28th, 2022, troopers responded to the Accurate Pest Control business located at 30139 Sussex Highway in Laurel, DE regarding a theft of a vehicle trailer. The ensuing investigation revealed that two suspects had stolen a Sure Trac trailer on March 26th, 2022. The trailer was located on March 28th, 2022 in Seaford, DE after the suspects sold it to a third party. Through investigative measures, it was determined that the two suspects were Jaread Mears and 39-year-old Chad Mitchell of Laurel, DE. Mears was apprehended by Georgetown Police Department on April 15th, 2022 after Mears attempted to flee from officers on foot.

Mears was transported to Georgetown Police Department where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Theft Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Selling Stolen Property Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)
  • Criminal Trespass Third Degree

Mears was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and released on $6,050 unsecured bond.

Mitchell has yet to be located and has an active warrant for the same charges.

Delaware State Police have identified the victim who died in a Friday afternoon crash on Lewes-Georgetown Highway (Route 9) west of EbbTide Drive, Lewes, as Dakhyi Floyd, 17, of Middletown, DE. 

This collision remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit.
