*UPDATE* Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on South DuPont Hwy

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision on southbound South DuPont Hwy (US 13), Harrington.

On April 27, 2022, at approximately 10:24 a.m., a 2017 Kentworth Truck Tractor pulling a 2014 Wilson Trailer was stopped in the left turn lane median crossover on US 13 northbound, preparing to turn left across southbound US 13 onto westbound Tower Hill Rd. At the same time, a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling southbound in the left lane of US 13, approaching the intersection with Tower Hill Rd. The truck driver failed to remain stopped and proceeded across the southbound lanes and into the path of the Jetta, resulting in the Jetta striking the right rear tandem wheels of the trailer.

A 65-year-old Townsend man was driving the truck and was not injured in the collision.

An 18-year-old Dover man was driving the Jetta. He was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. At the time of this release, the status of his injuries is unknown.

An 18-year-old Millsboro woman was seated in the front passenger seat of the Jetta. Unfortunately, due to injuries sustained during the crash, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours as the crash was investigated and the roadway was cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. Delaware State Police Investigate Home Depot Robbery

Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the Wilmington area on Monday morning.

On April 26th, 2022, troopers responded to the Home Depot located at 3616 Miller Road for a robbery that had occurred the previous morning. The investigation revealed that on Monday, April 25th, 2022, at approximately 8:45 a.m., an unknown black female entered the business and attempted to remove merchandise from a secured display cage. When a store employee confronted the suspect, she displayed a knife towards the employee. The suspect then removed merchandise and fled the area on a bicycle in an unknown direction of travel. The employee was not injured during the incident.

The suspect is described as a black female wearing a COVID-19 mask. There are currently no surveillance images available for the suspect.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit is currently investigating the incident. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective D. Delaware State Police Investigate Robbery of Family Dollar

Delaware State Police are currently investigating a strong-arm robbery that occurred in the Wilmington area on Tuesday evening.

On April 26th, 2022, at approximately 6:06 p.m., troopers responded to the Family Dollar located at 2021 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, for a reported robbery. The investigation determined three subjects entered the business and attempted to remove merchandise without paying. When store employees confronted the subjects, a physical altercation ensued which resulted in two employees sustaining minor injuries. The three suspects then fled the area. The victims refused medical treatment at the scene.

The first suspect is described as a black female, approximately 25-30 years old, approximately 5’07” – 5’09” tall, weighing approximately 160-170 pounds, with a ponytail in her hair.

The second suspect is described as a black male, approximately 25-30 years old, approximately 5’07” – 5’08” tall, weighing approximately 160-170 pounds, with short hair.

The third suspect is described as a black female, approximately 30-35 years old, approximately 5’05” – 5’07” tall, weighing approximately 180-200 pounds, with long black braided hair.

There are currently no surveillance images of the suspects available.

This case remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Detective J. Troopers Arrest Subject for Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

Delaware State Police have arrested 20-year-old Jashaun Johnson of Selbyville, DE following a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon in the Selbyville area.

On April 26th, 2022, at approximately 12:09 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a blue Ford Focus traveling southbound on Roxana Road approaching Polly Branch Road. The driver failed to signal while turning onto westbound Polly Branch Road and was seen using his cell phone and not wearing his seatbelt. A traffic stop was conducted on the Focus on Lincoln Avenue and contact was made with the operator and sole occupant, Jashaun Johnson. During the stop, Johnson was observed throwing a belted bag away from him that he had been wearing. When troopers retrieved the bag, Johnson attempted to flee the area on foot. He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. A search conducted incident to arrest resulted in the discovery of approximately 41.4 grams of cocaine, approximately 0.476 grams of heroin, drug paraphernalia, and over $900.00 in suspected drug proceeds.

Johnson was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 4 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 2 counts
  • Several traffic offenses

He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and released on a $9,700 unsecured bond.

Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Single Motor Vehicle Crash

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle crash that occurred early Wednesday morning in the Newark area.

On April 27th, 2022, at approximately 1:09 a.m., a silver Buick LeSabre was traveling westbound on Chestnut Hill Road (Delaware Route 4) west of Salem Church Road. For unknown reasons, the driver veered left off of the roadway and continued traveling in a southwestern direction before the car struck a steel overhead street sign support and a guardrail. The Buick then overturned onto its right side in the center median.

The driver, a 31-year-old Newark female, was not properly restrained and unfortunately was pronounced deceased at the scene due to her injuries. Identification is pending notification to the next-of-kin.

There were no passengers in the Buick, and no one else was reported injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the collision was being investigated. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Traffic Advisory Road Closure- Southbound South DuPont Hwy at Tower Hill Road (Harrington)

Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious injury motor vehicle collision on southbound South DuPont Hwy at Tower Hill Road, Harrington. As a result, southbound South DuPont Hwy in the area of Tower Hill Road will be closed down for an extended period of time. Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes of travel to avoid traffic delays.

Troopers Arrest Two Subjects for Property and Drug Charges

Delaware State Police arrested two subjects for property and drug charges following a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Monday afternoon in the Middletown area.

On April 25th, 2022, at approximately 3:50 p.m., troopers responded to northbound Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway (Delaware Route 1) in the area of Drawyers Creek in Middletown, DE regarding a motor vehicle accident. Prior to the troopers arrival, the operator and passenger of a silver Hyundai Elantra that had been involved in the collision had fled the scene on foot. Driver Danieve Harper, 39, of Middletown, DE and passenger Tenah Parris, 30, of Penns Grove, NJ, were located a short distance away on North Dupont Parkway. Both Harper and Parris were taken into custody without incident. A search of Harper revealed that he was in possession of drug paraphernalia, and a search of Parris led to the discovery of approximately 2.47 grams of methamphetamine, approximately .04 grams of cocaine, approximately 0.063 grams of suspected heroin, and drug paraphernalia. A computer inquiry of the Elantra revealed that it had been reported stolen by Delaware State Police Troop 9 in October 2021.

Harper and Parris were transported to Troop 9 and charged with the following offenses:

Danieve Harper

  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Numerous traffic violations

Tenah Parris

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3 counts
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Both Harper and Parris were arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and released on their own recognizance.

Delaware State Police Arrest Two Subjects on Weapons Charges

Delaware State Police have arrested two subjects for weapons and drug charges following a traffic stop that occurred on Sunday evening.

On April 24th, 2022 at approximately 8:51 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the Wilmington, DE area observed a black Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound Interstate 495 in the area of Cauffiel Parkway. A traffic stop was initiated and the trooper made contact with the occupants, which included 26-year-old Shawn Taylor of Houtzdale, PA and 25-year-old Naim Abdullah of Aston, PA. Upon contacting the occupants, a strong odor of marijuana was detected emitting from the vehicle’s interior. A subsequent search of the Challenger led to the discovery of approximately 0.68 grams of marijuana and a loaded Springfield handgun. Computer checks of Taylor and Abdullah revealed that both subjects were convicted felons prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Taylor and Abdullah were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1, where they were both charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm While Possessing a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana

Both Taylor and Abdullah were arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $30,001 cash bond.

Troopers Arrest Motorcyclist on Drug Charges

Delaware State Police have arrested 26-year-old Devon McCray of Frankford, DE on drug charges following a traffic stop on Sunday afternoon.

On April 24th, 2022 at approximately 3:04 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the Millsboro, DE area observed a motorcycle stopped on the east side of Cannon Road just north of Devon Road. The motorcycle did not have a registration plate displayed, and the operator was observed standing on the roadside. The trooper attempted to contact the individual, but the operator attempted to flee the scene on the motorcycle and then on foot. A foot chase ensued and the operator, identified as Devon McCray, was taken into custody without incident. A search of McCray led to the discovery of approximately 1.743 grams of suspected heroin and approximately 12.22 grams of cocaine.

McCray was transported to Troop 4 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Numerous traffic charges

McCray was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and released on $31,350 unsecured bond.

Troopers Arrest Subject for Theft of a Motor Vehicle

Delaware State Police have arrested 30-year-old Arkeem Adkins of Millsboro, DE for theft of a motor vehicle and other charges following a traffic stop that occurred on Saturday afternoon.

On April 23rd, 2022 at approximately 3:32 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the Dagsboro, DE area observed a black Mercedes C300 traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Iron Branch Road in the area of Bunting Road. The trooper initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on Colonial Estates Avenue east of Iron Branch Road and made contact with the operator, identified as Arkeem Adkins. Upon contacting Adkins, a strong odor of marijuana was detected emitting from the vehicle’s interior. A subsequent search of the Mercedes led to the discovery of approximately 0.078 grams of marijuana. A computer inquiry of Adkins showed that he had a suspended driver’s license and an active warrant for his arrest. Computer checks also revealed that the Mercedes C300 had been reported as stolen by Delaware State Police Troop 4 on April 21st, 2022.

Adkins was transported to Troop 4 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1,500
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Driving While Suspended / Revoked
  • Speeding

Adkins was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $500 secured bond.
