Delaware State Police Conducting Death Investigation at Sussex Correctional Institution

Delaware State Police are investigating an inmate’s death, which occurred yesterday at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown.

Delaware State Police detectives, with the assistance of the Delaware Department of Correction, are investigating the death of an inmate which occurred on June 25, 2022. The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing with further details to be released as they become available.

The victim was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next-of-kin.

Subject Arrested for Assaulting Trooper

Delaware State Police have arrested 18-year-old Jaliel Perry of Lincoln, DE for felony assault and other charges following a narcotics investigation that began in the Lewes area on Saturday morning.

On June 25, 2022 at approximately 11:22 a.m., troopers responded to Pinetown Road after receiving a report of suspicious activity occurring in the area. Troopers observed what appeared to be illegal narcotics sales involving a male subject standing on the roadway. When troopers approached the male subject, later identified as Jaliel Perry, he began running away towards Cone Lane. Perry was also seen discarding an unknown object into a nearby wooded area. Troopers were able to contact Perry a short distance away, and they attempted to take him into custody. However, Perry physically resisted arrest, resulting in one of the troopers sustaining an injury and having a uniform damaged. Perry was taken into custody after the struggle, and a search of his person led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and over $650 in suspected drug proceeds.

The trooper responded to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries, and he was later released.

Perry was transported to Troop 7 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Assault Second Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest With Force or Violence (Felony)
  • Tampering With Evidence (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Criminal Mischief

Perry was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,000 cash bond.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Wilmington area on Friday morning.

On June 24, 2022 at approximately 12:16 a.m., a silver 2008 Lincoln MKZ was traveling northbound on Interstate 495 approaching the area of Exit 1 for US Business Route 13. For an unknown reason the operator of the Lincoln pulled onto the right shoulder and came to a stop. The operator then exited his vehicle and began standing on I-495. During this time, a blue 2017 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on I-495 approaching the Lincoln’s location. The Accord partially crossed over the white shoulder line, and as a result its front right corner struck the rear left corner of the stopped Lincoln MKZ. After the collision, the Lincoln was spun in a clockwise direction until it struck a guardrail on the east side of the roadway where it came to rest. The Honda subsequently flipped onto its roof and slid northbound until it came to rest on the interstate. The driver of the Lincoln was also struck at this time by one of the vehicles as he stood on the highway.

The operator of the Lincoln MKZ, a 53-year-old man from Newark, DE, sustained critical injuries. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next-of-kin. The passenger of the Lincoln, a 53-year-old man from New Castle, DE, was properly restrained. He was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. The operator of the Honda Accord, a 23-year-old woman from New Castle, DE, was not properly restrained. She was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported. I-495 northbound was closed for approximately five hours while the crash was being investigated and cleared.

Delaware State Police Seek Public’s Assistance in Robbery Investigation of Panera Bread

Wilmington – Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of Panera Bread.

On June 24th, 2022, at approximately 12:32 a.m., troopers responded to Panera Bread located at 2311 Concord Pike in Wilmington. The investigation revealed that an unknown male forced entry into the business through the front glass. Once inside, the suspect confronted an employee and demanded the employee’s cellphone. The suspect was able to gain control over the cellphone after a brief struggle. The suspect then exited the store and returned with suspect #2 moments later. During this time, the employee was able to escape through a rear door and call 911 at a nearby location. The two unknown male suspects were dressed in dark clothing. No one was injured during the incident.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance Locating Wanted Kent County Man

Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance with locating 24-year-old Enrico Giangiacomo of Dover, Delaware. Enrico currently has an active felony criminal warrant from an investigation that started in February 2022. He also has a capias for terroristic threatening.

Enrico is approximately 5’ 7” tall, weighing 150 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair. He may be in the Dover or Camden area. Attempts to locate Enrico have been unsuccessful.

One Subject Arrested, One Remains At-Large Following Shooting Incident

Delaware State Police have arrested 18-year-old Samuel Mondestin of Seaford, DE for reckless endangering and other charges following a shooting incident that occurred in the Lincoln area on Wednesday afternoon.

On June 22, 2022 at approximately 3:07 p.m., troopers responded to the 10000 block of Greentop Road for a report of shots fired. The ensuing investigation revealed that two subjects in a Toyota Corolla had fired several gunshots at a nearby residence before fleeing the area. At the time, the home was not occupied by its three inhabitants, a 58-year old male, a 56-year-old female, and a 22-year-old male. No one was injured in this incident, and the home itself was not struck by gunfire. Troopers located the Corolla on Haflinger Road soon afterwards, and operator Samuel Mondestin was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Mondestin was transported to Troop 4 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Reckless Endangering First Degree (Felony) – 3 counts
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)

Mondestin was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and released on his own recognizance.

The second suspect involved in this incident remains at-large. The Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit is currently investigating this incident. Troopers Arrest Wanted Subject on Felony Drug Charges

Delaware State Police have arrested 25-year-old Wymere Guy of Wilmington, DE on felony drug charges following an investigation that began on Wednesday morning.

On June 22, 2022 at approximately 10:30 a.m., troopers responded to the 400 block of South Dupont Highway in New Castle attempting to locate Wymere Guy. Guy was a known fugitive who had several active criminal warrants for his arrest. Troopers observed Guy in an apartment complex parking lot holding a bag. When troopers attempted to contact Guy, he discarded the bag and began fleeing the area on foot. Troopers gave chase and were able to apprehend guy a short distance away without further incident. A search of the recovered bag led to the discovery of approximately 3.822 grams of suspected heroin.

Guy was transported to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Tampering With Evidence (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest

Guy was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $7,600 cash bond.

Delaware State Police Seek Public’s Assistance in Robbery Investigation of Dollar Tree

New Castle – Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of Dollar Tree.

On June 21st, 2022, at approximately 12:54 p.m., troopers responded to Dollar Tree at 1230 Beaver Brook Plaza in New Castle. The investigation revealed that the unknown white male suspect entered the store as an employee was waiting on customers. When the employee opened the cash register, the suspect approached the employee and began trying to grab money from the cash register. The employee quickly shut the cash register and the suspect pushed the employee away. The suspect then pulled out a knife and attempted to open the cash register but was unsuccessful, so he took the entire cash drawer and fled toward a development named Chaddwyk. No one was injured during the incident.
