Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle that occurred in the Felton area on Monday evening.

On August 29, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a blue 2008 Suzuki sport-style motorcycle was traveling westbound on Burnite Mill Road approaching the intersection with Berrytown Road. The operator of the motorcycle crossed the double-yellow line on Burnite Mill Road to pass another vehicle that was traveling westbound in front of him. After passing this vehicle, the motorcyclist moved back into the westbound lane of travel. However, in doing so the operator lost control of the motorcycle and exited the northern edge of the roadway. The motorcycle then struck several trees, which led to the operator sustaining critical injuries.

The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old male from Ridgely, Maryland, was transported from the scene to an area hospital. He succumbed to his injuries earlier this morning. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

No other vehicles were involved in this incident. No other injuries were reported. The roadway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the collision was being investigated and cleared.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in the New Castle area on Sunday evening.

On August 28, 2022, at approximately 8:14 p.m., a red 2013 Toyota Highlander was traveling westbound on Boulden Boulevard approaching the intersection at Southgate Boulevard. As the Highlander approached this intersection, a pedestrian entered the westbound lane of Boulden Boulevard and into the path of the vehicle. As a result, the front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian while he was in the roadway. After the collision, the vehicle fled the area and continued westbound. A short time later, an officer from the New Castle County Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the Highlander on Marrows Road north of White Chapel Drive. Both the driver and passenger were subsequently taken into custody without incident.

The pedestrian involved in this incident, a 54-year-old male from New Castle, Delaware, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin. Both the driver of the Highlander, a 30-year-old male from Baltimore, Maryland, and the passenger, a 37-year-old male from Newark, Delaware, were properly restrained. Neither occupant was injured in the collision.

No other vehicles were involved in this incident. The roadway was not illuminated at the time, and there are no pedestrian crosswalks in the area. The victim was wearing dark-colored clothing and did not appear to be carrying a lighted device. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the collision was being investigated and cleared.

*Traffic Advisory* Delaware State Police Investigating Serious Collision

Delaware State Police are on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred tonight, August 28, 2022, at approximately 8:16 p.m., on Boulden Boulevard in the area of Southgate Boulevard, New Castle, DE.

As a result of the crash, Boulden Boulevard is closed in both directions for emergency response vehicles at the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel. The road closure is anticipated to be lengthy, with no estimated time for a re-opening.

The investigation is in the early stages with further details being released as they become available.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Seaford area on Saturday morning.

On August 27, 2022, at approximately 6:10 a.m., a white 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound in the left lane of Sussex Highway (Route 13) just north of Camp Road. At this time, a 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck, was traveling northbound in the left lane of Sussex Highway traveling at a slower speed, in front of the Jeep. The operator of the Jeep swerved to the left in an attempt to maneuver around the Sierra to avoid striking it.  The operator of the Jeep was unable to avoid striking the truck and the front right of the Jeep struck the left rear of the Sierra. As a result of the collision the Jeep rotated in a clockwise direction and began sliding sideways, until it flipped. The Jeep came to rest upright in the grass median.

After the initial impact the Sierra came to a controlled stop in the northbound shoulder of Sussex Highway (Route 13). Shortly after coming to a stop, the Sierra then continued northbound on Sussex Highway and fled the scene. The Sierra was later located unoccupied in the Seaford area.

The operator of the Jeep, a 29-year-old female from Seaford, DE, who was not properly restrained, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification to the next of kin.

The operator of the Sierra has not yet been identified.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the collision was being investigated and the roadway cleared.

Troopers Arrest Three Subjects for Shoplifting and Resisting Arrest

Delaware State Police have arrested 24-year-old Jennifer Ramirez-Sanchez of Flushing, New York; 24-year-old Sophia Gonzales of Flushing, New York; and 51-year-old Nubia Garcia of Brooklyn, New York on numerous charges following a shoplifting investigation that began in the Rehoboth Beach area on Thursday evening.

On August 25, 2022, at approximately 4:25 p.m., troopers on patrol in the area of the Bayside Outlets were informed by a witness that several female subjects had shoplifted clothing from the Columbia Sportswear store. The suspects had concealed merchandise in large handbags and were seen walking through the parking lot. Troopers attempted to contact the female suspects in the parking lot, but they continued walking away and physically resisted being detained. Troopers were able to take three of the four subjects into custody at the scene, while the fourth unidentified female suspect fled the area on foot. The ensuing investigation revealed that the suspects had shoplifted from several outlet stores and had worn various disguises while doing so. The suspects had also concealed stolen items underneath vehicles in the Bayside Outlets parking lot.

The three suspects, identified as Jennifer Ramirez-Sanchez, Sophia Gonzales, and Nubia Garcia, were transported to Troop 7 and charged with the following crimes:

Jennifer Ramirez-Sanchez:

  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of Shoplifting Tools (Felony)
  • Shoplifting Under $1,500 – 2 counts
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Conspiracy Third Degree

Ramirez-Sanchez was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $4,000 secured bond.

Sophia Gonzales:

  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of Shoplifting Tools (Felony)
  • Shoplifting Under $1,500 – 2 counts
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Hindering Prosecution
  • Conspiracy Third Degree

Gonzales was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $4,500 secured bond.

Nubia Garcia:

  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of Shoplifting Tools (Felony)
  • Shoplifting Under $1,500 – 2 counts
  • Criminal Impersonation
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Hindering Prosecution
  • Conspiracy Third Degree

Garcia was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,000 secured bond.

Troopers Conducting Shooting Investigation on Interstate 495

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Interstate 495 in the New Castle area early this morning.

On August 26, 2022, at approximately 2:56 a.m., a 20-year-old Wilmington man was traveling southbound Interstate 495 at Terminal Avenue in the center lane when an unknown vehicle on his right side opened fired. Multiple gunshots were fired, and the victim was struck one time in the lower extremity. The victim sped away and exited the highway to I-295 in the area of Route 141, where his vehicle became disabled. The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

There is currently no description of the suspect vehicle.
