State Police Arrest Man for Attempted Robbery

Delaware State Police have arrested 61-year-old Jeffrey Cagle of Newark, Delaware following a robbery investigation that began on Saturday evening.

On October 1, 2022, at approximately 9:43 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the Dash In convenience store located at 1148 Christiana Road in Newark regarding a robbery. The ensuing investigation revealed that a male suspect had entered the business and presented a demand note to the clerk. The suspect then approached the clerk and began attacking her. The victim was able to stab the suspect before he fled from the store on foot. The clerk was treated at an area hospital for injuries sustained during the incident.

Through investigative means, it was determined that Jeffrey Cagle was the suspect of the robbery. On October 4, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Cagle was contacted during a traffic stop in Newark and taken into custody without incident. Cagle was transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment of his stab wounds. While at the hospital, he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Attempted Robbery First Degree (Felony)
  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)

Cagle was arraigned via videophone by Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $28,000 cash bond.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in the Wilmington area on Saturday afternoon.

On October 1, 2022, at approximately 12:06 p.m., a blue 2005 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Foulk Road north of Naamans Road. At this time, a 40-year-old female from Villanova, Pennsylvania was crossing the northbound lanes of Foulk Road outside of the crosswalk area and in the travel path of the Camry. As a result, the front right of the car struck the pedestrian, causing serious injuries. The female was transported from the scene to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin. The driver of the Camry, a 51-year-old female from Wilmington, Delaware, was properly restrained and was not injured.

No other vehicles were involved in this incident, and no other injuries were reported. The roadways were closed for approximately two hours while the collision was investigated.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Smyrna area on Sunday evening.

On October 2, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., a black 2010 Harley-Davidson FXD motorcycle was traveling northbound on Dupont Parkway north of Paddock Road approaching the Smyrna Rest Area. For unknown reasons, the operator lost control of the vehicle and the motorcycle began sliding on its side. At this time, the Harley-Davidson was struck by another unknown vehicle, causing the motorcycle to be redirected towards the entrance to the Smyrna Rest Area, where it came to rest in the right northbound lane of Dupont Parkway. The second vehicle subsequently fled the scene.

Both the operator of the motorcycle, identified as 53-year-old Charles Green of Wilmington, Delaware, and the passenger, identified as 53-year-old Michele Baxendale of Wilmington, Delaware, were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Both individuals were later pronounced deceased. The driver, make, and model of the second vehicle remain unidentified at this time. Dupont Parkway was closed for approximately four hours while the roadway was cleared and the collision was investigated.

Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance With Locating Wanted Subject

Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance with locating Kenneth Stewart, 30, of Seaford, Delaware. Stewart current has several active warrants for his arrest, including a felony criminal warrant issued by Troop 5. Stewart is described as a white male, approximately 6’03” tall, weighing approximately 250 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Attempts to locate Stewart have been unsuccessful. Troopers are asking anyone who has information regarding his whereabouts to contact Delaware State Police Troop 5 at at 302-337-1090, or by calling 9-1-1. Troopers Investigate Shooting Incident

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Felton area on Saturday night.

On October 1, 2022, at approximately 10:53 p.m., troopers responded to Canterbury Crossing for a reported shooting. Investigation revealed that a victim sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital, where they remain in stable condition. For the safety of the victim, only limited information is being released at this time.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Criminal Investigations Unit continues investigating this case. Troopers are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Detective B.
