Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle that occurred in the Seaford area last night.

On November 5, 2022, at approximately 7:35 p.m., a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, operated by a 33-year-old male was traveling northbound on North Market Street (Route 13A) attempting to make a left turn to continue traveling northbound on North Market Street at a Y-intersection. At the time, a 1997 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle, operated by a 59-year-old male of Hebron, MD, was traveling southbound on South Front Street entering the intersection of North Market Street. For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet turned left directly in front of the Harley Davidson. As a result, the front left of the Chevrolet struck the left front of the Harley, ejecting the operator.

The 59-year-old male operator of the Harley Davidson motorcycle was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 33-year-old male operator of the Chevrolet was not injured.

The intersection of North Market Street at South Front Street was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle that occurred in the Middletown area early this morning.

On November 5, 2022, at approximately 1:42 a.m., a 2016 Chrysler 200 was traveling in the left lane of southbound Route 896 south of the intersection with Bethel Church Road. At the time, a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound in the left southbound lane of Route 896, approaching the intersection with Bethel Church Road. The front of the Harley struck the front of Chrysler for point of impact. The operator of the Harley was ejected, and the motorcycle came to a rest in the right southbound lane. The Chrysler continued south a short distance and came to rest within the left lane of Route 896 southbound.

The 20-year-old male operator of the Chrysler was properly restrained and was not injured in the collision.  The 19-year-old front seat passenger, who was also properly restrained, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  The Chrysler was occupied by three rear-seated passengers, all of whom did not sustain any injuries.

The 37-year-old operator of the Harley from Newark, DE, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.  Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

Route 896 southbound was closed at Bethel Church Road for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway cleared.

Delaware State Police Investigating Double Fatal Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the lives of two individuals last night in the Felton area.

The collision occurred on November 4, 2022, at approximately 10:10 p.m., when a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling northbound in the left southbound lane of S. Dupont Highway (Route 13) south of Reeves Crossing Road. At the time, a 2009 Toyota Scion was traveling southbound in the left lane of Route 13 south of Reeves Crossing Road approaching the Malibu. The Malibu struck the Scion head on in the left southbound lane of Route 13. After point of impact, both vehicles rotated counterclockwise 180 degrees until the Malibu came to a rest in the southbound left turn lane and the Scion came to a rest in the southbound right lane.

The 25-year-old female operator of the Malibu from Camden, DE, who was properly restrained, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 17-year-old male operator of the Scion from Harrington, DE, who was properly restrained, was pronounced deceased at the scene The identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

Route 13 southbound was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway cleared.

Delaware State Police Troop 3 is seeking the public’s assistance with locating 36-year-old Phillip Vilone of Harrington, Delaware. Vilone currently has felonious burglary-related charges. He is approximately 5’ 10” tall, weighing 180 lbs., with hazel eyes and brown hair.

State Police Arrest Juvenile Following Shooting

Delaware State Police have arrested a 16-year-old juvenile on weapons charges following a shooting that occurred in Dover on Sunday afternoon.

On October 30, 2022, at approximately 2:05 p.m., troopers responded to Joshua Clayton Road in Dover regarding a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, troopers learned that a 26-year-old male had been walking in the area when a male suspect fired multiple handgun rounds in his direction. The victim was not struck by gunfire and was not injured. The ensuing investigation revealed that a 16-year-old male juvenile had fired approximately twelve rounds at the victim before fleeing the area on foot.

The juvenile suspect was later identified by detectives and taken into custody at his residence on November 1, 2022. He was transported to Troop 3 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under 21 (Felony)
  • Reckless Endangering First Degree (Felony)

The juvenile was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and released after having his $1,500 cash bond posted.
