Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision in Dover

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in Dover this morning.

On November 10, 2022, at approximately 8:09 a.m., a Freightliner Tractor pulling a loaded flatbed cargo trailer was traveling southbound in the right lane of Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway (SR1) south of the Exit 104 ramp. For unknown reasons, the tractor traveled off the west edge of the roadway and down a grass embankment before striking several trees.

The tractor was operated by a 45-year-old male of Delaware, who was not properly restrained. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin. Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway southbound (south of Exit 104) was closed for approximately 5 hours while the roadway was cleared and the collision was investigated.

State Police Investigating Fatal Parking Lot Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in a parking lot in Millsboro on Tuesday afternoon.

On November 8, 2022, at approximately 2:33 p.m., an 82-year-old Lewes man was pushing a shopping cart in a southbound direction through the parking lot of the Weis grocery store, located at 24832 John J. Williams Highway. At the same time, a red 2016 Toyota Corolla was traveling through the same lot in a westerly direction towards the victim. The driver of the Corolla, an 85-year-old man from Millsboro, failed to observe the pedestrian and struck him, causing him to fall to the ground.

The victim was transported via ambulance to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved in this incident.

Troopers Investigate Shooting That Left One Man Injured

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Monday afternoon in the Bridgeville area that left one man injured.

On November 7, 2022, at approximately 1:47 p.m., troopers responded to the 21000 block of Mill Park Drive regarding a shooting. Upon their arrival, troopers learned that an 18-year-old male victim had been shot multiple times by an unknown male subject. The victim was transported by an acquaintance to an area hospital before the arrival of police or medical personnel. He is being treated for serious injuries at this time. No one else was harmed in this incident, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

State Police Investigating Shooting Incident

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Eagle Meadows area of Dover on Saturday evening.

On November 5, 2022, at approximately 8:48 p.m., troopers responded to the 4000 block of Vermont Drive regarding a shooting that had occurred a short time ago. The ensuing investigation revealed that sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., a 36-year-old male was standing outside of a residence when a gray passenger car drove by his location. An unknown subject or subjects then fired several gunshots in the victim’s direction. The vehicle and suspects fled from the area towards an unknown destination. The victim was not harmed in this incident, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

There is currently no suspect information available. The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this case. Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting following a road rage incident that occurred in Dover earlier today.

On November 8, 2022, at approximately 11:48 a.m., troopers began investigating a shooting that occurred on Seven Hickories Road in the area of Brenford Road. Investigators learned that the 34-year-old male victim had been struck by gunfire while he was seated in his vehicle after an alleged road rage incident. The victim was transported by an acquaintance to an area hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his wounds. No other subjects were injured.

State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in the New Castle area on Wednesday evening of last week.

On November 2, 2022, at approximately 6:34 p.m., a gray 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound on New Castle Avenue approaching the intersection at Rodney Drive. At the same time, a 74-year-old female, later identified as Mireille Mathis of Greenville, South Carolina, was walking westbound across New Castle Avenue away from the crosswalk. As Mathis crossed the roadway, she was struck by the front passenger side of the Jeep, leading to her sustaining critical injuries. The driver of the Jeep was properly restrained and was not injured. No other vehicles were involved in this incident.

Mathis was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Mathis remained at the hospital until she passed away on the morning of November 7, 2022.

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Dover on Sunday evening that resulted in property damage.

On the morning of November 7, 2022, troopers responded to a residence in the Capitol Park neighborhood regarding a late-reported shooting. Investigators learned that a vehicle and home had been damaged by gunfire on November 6 at approximately 5:40 p.m. The residence was occupied by a 46-year-old female, 64-year-old male, and a 15-year-old juvenile at the time of the incident. No one in the home or the surrounding area was injured, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Troopers Investigating Armed Robbery

Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred earlier this morning in Lewes.

On November 7, 2022, at approximately 6:24 a.m., troopers responded to the BP gas station located at 17580 Coastal Highway regarding a robbery. The ensuing investigation revealed that an unknown white male suspect had entered the convenience store and demanded money from the cash register. The suspect displayed a sharp object and threatened to harm the cashier if he did not comply. When the cashier refused to comply, the suspect lunged at the victim inside of the store. The cashier defended himself with his own knife, and the suspect fled from the area in a vehicle. The 68-year-old cashier suffered a small cut to his finger in the altercation.
