Troopers Investigating Gas Station Robbery

The Delaware State Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Claymont area gas station that occurred last night.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:41 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2022, at the BP gas station, located at 3421 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. Two male suspects entered the business and confronted an employee at the sales counter. One suspect produced a handgun and demanded money, while the second suspect went behind the counter and removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.  The suspects then fled the scene and were last observed running on foot towards the Waterfall banquet hall. The employee was not injured during the incident.

The first suspect was described as a black male, in his early 20’s approximately 6’ tall, wearing all dark clothing, a mask, and in possession of a handgun.

The second suspect was described as a black male, in his early 20’s approximately 6’ 2” tall, wearing all dark clothing, and a mask.

No surveillance images are available at this time.

Delaware State Police Investigating Single Vehicle Fatal Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a single fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Dover area on Monday night.

On December 12, 2022, at approximately 5:55 p.m., a 2001 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Wheel of Fortune Road south of Dyke Branch Road.  The Accord entered a slight left curve where the vehicle’s right tires left the roadway, and it began to travel out of control in a counterclockwise direction. As the operator attempted to regain control, the Accord then traveled out of control in a clockwise direction. The Accord left the roadway and its left driver-side door struck a tree.

The 59-year-old male operator of the Accord was properly restrained and was airlifted by the Delaware State Police Helicopter to an area hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.

The 45-year-old female passenger of Camden, DE who was properly restrained was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next-of-kin.

Wheel of Fortune Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision in Lewes

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in Lewes yesterday afternoon.

On December 10, 2022, at approximately 3:38 p.m., a Subaru Outback traveling eastbound on Minos Conaway Road was approaching a sharp curve in the roadway. A Lexus RX, traveling westbound on Minos Conaway Road, was approaching the same curve in the roadway. The Subaru failed to negotiate the curve and entered the westbound lane of travel, which caused the Subaru to collide with the Lexus in a near head-on collision.

The driver of the Subaru, a 75-year-old man from Lewes, the front passenger, a 104-year-old woman from Lewes, and the rear passenger, a 73-year-old woman from Lewes, were all wearing their seatbelts during the time of the collision. All occupants of the Subaru were transported to an area hospital for serious injuries. Sadly, the rear passenger died from her injuries while being treated at the hospital. The identification of the victim is pending notification to her family.

The driver of the Lexus, a 69-year-old man from Lewes, and the front passenger, a 68-year-old woman from Lewes, were also wearing their seatbelts during the collision. Both were transported to an area hospital for serious injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the scene was being investigated, and the roadway was cleared.

Annual Service Held to Honor the Memory of Fallen Delaware State Troopers

The Annual Delaware State Police Memorial Service was held at Saint Polycarp Parish on Monday, December 5, 2022, where active and retired troopers, along with their family and friends, came together to honor and remember the service and ultimate sacrifice of their 35 fallen sisters and brothers.

During the Heroes’ Roll Call, the families and friends of the fallen troopers placed a single rose in remembrance of their loved one on a table that held a campaign hat – a revered symbol of all Delaware State Troopers.

The delegation of speakers during the ceremony included Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long, Chief Deputy Attorney General Alexander Mackler, Secretary of Safety and Homeland Security, Nathaniel McQueen Jr., Superintendent of the Delaware State Police, Colonel Melissa Zebley, President of the Delaware State Troopers Association, Sergeant Troy Pezzuto, and the President of the Concerns of Police Survivors, Mrs. Eleanor Allione.

This annual service embodies the commitment of the Delaware State Police to honor our fallen, support their survivors, and never forget the sacrifice and service of our heroes. May God bless those who continue to protect and serve our communities.
