State Police Investigate Fatal Two-Car Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal collision that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Bridgeville area.

On December 5, 2022, at approximately 1:22 p.m., a gray 2010 Ford Focus was traveling northbound on Wesley Church Road approaching the intersection at Cannon Road. At the same time, a white 2014 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on Cannon Road approaching the same intersection. There is a posted stop sign and flashing red traffic light for northbound traffic on Wesley Church Road at this intersection, whereas traffic on Cannon Road does not have to stop. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Focus did not stop and proceeded through the intersection and into the path of the Charger. As a result, the front of the Charger struck the left side of the Focus, and both vehicles exited the roadway and came to rest north of Cannon Road.

The driver of the Focus, an 83-year-old man from Greenwood, Delaware, was properly restrained. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and identification is pending notification to his family and relatives. The driver of the Charger, a 26-year-old man from Bridgeville, Delaware, was properly restrained. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was treated for injuries and released.

No other vehicles were involved in this collision. The intersection was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Arrest

Delaware State Police have arrested 29-year-old Philip Adams of Smyrna, Delaware for firearms offenses following a traffic stop that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Camden area.

On December 4, 2022, at approximately 12:48 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a 2005 blue Ford Explorer traveling southbound on South Dupont Highway in the area of West Lebanon Road. The trooper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle after a computer check showed that the registration had expired. The trooper contacted the driver and sole occupant, identified as Philip Adams, and detected an odor of marijuana. The Explorer was searched at the scene, which led to the discovery of a concealed 9-millimeter handgun, a large fixed-blade knife, approximately .6 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Adams was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • Carrying a Concealed Firearm (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Numerous traffic offenses

Adams was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 7 and released on $4,250 unsecured bond.

State Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred yesterday evening in the Milford area.

On December 4, 2022, at approximately 6:28 p.m., a silver 2008 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound in the right lane on Bay Road approaching the intersection at Williamsburg Drive. At the same time, a pedestrian was walking eastbound across Bay Road’s southbound lanes and into the path of the Toyota. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing, not carrying a light, and not using a crosswalk. The driver of the Corolla attempted to brake and swerve to avoid striking the subject on foot but was unable to do so.

The pedestrian that was struck, a 49-year-old Milford man, sustained serious injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and identification is pending notification to his family and relatives. The driver of the Corolla, an 18-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, was not injured. The front-seat passenger, a 17-year-old male from Newark, Delaware, was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in this collision. Bay Road was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Investigating Fatal Collision on I-95

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred yesterday evening in the Newark area.

On December 3, 2022, at approximately 10:17 p.m., a 2021 Hyundai Accent was stopped in the left center lane of Interstate 95 in the area of the Delaware House Travel Plaza / Biden Welcome Center. At the same time, a 2020 International box truck was traveling southbound on I-95 in the same lane. The front of the box truck struck the rear of the Hyundai, and both vehicles continued forward until they collided with the guardrail on the right shoulder. Both vehicles went through the guardrail and came to rest off the west edge of southbound I-95.

The driver of the Accent, a 35-year-old man from Bear, Delaware, sustained serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment but was sadly pronounced deceased later in the evening. Identification of the man is pending notification to his family and relatives. The driver of the box truck, a 50-year-old man from Fort Washington, Maryland, and the passenger, a 21-year-old man from Forth Washington, Maryland, were both transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Southbound I-95 was closed for approximately five hours while the collision was being investigated and cleared. The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) hazmat team responded to the scene to address fuel that was leaking from the damaged Hyundai Accent.
