Troopers Investigating Robbery of Drug Store

Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a New Castle area Walgreens that occurred last night.

The incident occurred on May 11, 2023, at approximately 8:26 p.m., when troopers were dispatched to the Walgreens located at 1413 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, for a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that two male suspects entered the store and split up. One suspect watched for customers while the second suspect approached two employees behind the sales counter while displaying a handgun and demanded keys to the safe. The suspect escorted the employees to a rear office and the employees complied. After obtaining money from the safe, the suspect escorted the employees back to the front cash registers and obtained additional cash. The suspects fled the scene on foot towards Pennsylvania Avenue with an undisclosed amount of money.

The employees were not injured as a result of the incident.

The first suspect was described as a black male 25-35 years-old, approximately 5’8″-5’9″ tall, large build, wearing light colored clothing.

The second suspect was described as an unknown male approximately 6’3″-6’4″ tall wearing all dark clothing.

There are currently no photos of the suspects available at this time.

State Police Investigating Fatal Collision on Interstate

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred last night on Interstate 495 that left one man dead.

On May 10, 2023, at approximately 10:44 p.m., a blue 2003 Toyota Solera was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on I-495 south of Philadelphia Pike. The Solera sideswiped three vehicles in the southbound lanes before it lost both of its front tires. The Solera then crossed over into northbound I-495 at the Holly Oak Road crossover and began traveling northbound at a slow rate of speed on two damaged front rims. A black 2017 Kia Forte that was traveling northbound on I-495 then struck the rear of the Solera.

The driver of the Solera, a 30-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was not wearing his seatbelt. He sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. The name of the victim is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified. The driver of the Forte, a 36-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Interstate 495 was closed for approximately 4.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Collision

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred in the New Castle area during the month of April.

On April 20, 2023, at approximately 3:50 p.m., a Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling in the right lane of North Dupont Highway just north of School Lane. A Volkswagen Jetta was traveling north of School Lane on South Dupont Highway and had entered the crossover between the northbound and southbound lanes of Dupont Highway. The Jetta attempted to make a U-turn and crossed into the northbound travel lanes, causing its right rear side to collide with the front of the motorcycle.

The driver of the Jetta, a 24-year-old man from Chichester, Pennsylvania, and his passenger, a 45-year-old man from Middletown, Delaware, were not injured during the collision. The driver of the motorcycle, a 71-year-old man from Bear, Delaware, and his passenger, a 65-year-old female from Bear, Delaware, were transported to an area hospital following the collision. They were later discharged from the hospital. On May 8, 2023, the 65-year-old passenger of the motorcycle died from injuries sustained during the collision.

The roadway was partially closed for approximately 1 hour while the collision was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.

Troopers Arrest Man on Drug Dealing Charges

The Delaware State Police have arrested 53-year-old Gregory Dove of Dover, Delaware on drug dealing charges following a traffic stop that took place yesterday morning in Dover.

On May 10, 2023, at approximately 8:29 a.m., a trooper on patrol observed a silver Chrysler Town & Country minivan parked in the fire lane in the Rodney Village Shopping Center. The trooper conducted a traffic stop on the minivan and contacted the driver, identified as Gregory Dove. The trooper began speaking with Dove, and during their interaction he learned that Dove was in possession of drugs. The trooper searched Dove and found numerous baggies of crack cocaine in his pocket. The trooper also recovered marijuana and additional crack cocaine from Dove’s minivan. Altogether, Dove was discovered to be in possession of approximately 12.02 grams of crack cocaine and 34.52 grams of marijuana.

Dove was taken to Troop 3 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana Other Than Personal Use Quantity
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Parking in a Fire Lane

Dove was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.

Delaware State Police Investigating Robbery at Bank ATM

Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery that occurred yesterday at the drive-thru ATM outside of a bank in the Wilmington area.

On May 8, 2023, at approximately 5:17 p.m., troopers responded to the Wells Fargo located 2024 Naamans Road, Wilmington for a reported robbery at the atm. The initial investigation revealed two male suspects approached a 58-year-old male victim who was servicing the atm. The suspects forced the victim to the ground and bound his wrists with zip ties. After subduing the victim, the suspects demanded money from the atm. The victim complied, and the suspects were able to flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim was not injured during the incident.

The suspects fled the scene in a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer and set fire to the vehicle in a nearby parking lot at the Cliff House Condominiums. The suspects then entered a dark colored vehicle and fled the area.

The two suspects were described as 20–30-year-old males, approximately 5’11” tall, 180-200 lbs., wearing masks and dressed in all dark clothing.

Delaware State Police Investigating Gym Parking Lot Carjacking

The Delaware State Police are investigating a carjacking that took place in a gym parking lot in the Newark area Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2023, when a 31-year-old female victim parked her Dodge Durango in the parking lot of the Edge Fitness located at 2800 Fashion Center, Boulevard, Newark. As the victim exited her vehicle with her car keys in hand, an unknown suspect approached her and attempted to grab the keys. There was physical struggle over the keys, but ultimately the suspect was able to gain control over them after shoving the victim to the ground. After the first suspect entered the driver seat of the Durango, a second suspect then entered the front passenger seat and they fled the area in the stolen vehicle.

The victim sustained minor injuries to the upper and lower extremities but refused medical attention at the scene.

The suspects were described as two black males approximately 5’5” tall and wearing all dark clothing. There are no surveillance images available at this time.

State Police Arrest Man on Felony Gun and Drug Charges

The Delaware State Police have arrested 43-year-old Lenell Abbott of Dover, Delaware on several felony gun and drug charges following an investigation that began Thursday evening.

On May 4, 2023, at approximately 10:23 p.m., troopers responded to a residence on Cathy Avenue in Dover after the homeowner reported that his house had been struck by gunfire. Troopers discovered that a 13-year-old boy had been in his bedroom earlier that day when a bullet went through his wall. The boy was not injured, and troopers were able to trace the bullet’s trajectory back to the neighboring residence. Detectives contacted the neighbor, identified as Lenell Abbott, and learned that Abbott had accidentally fired a handgun through his kitchen window.

Computer checks of Abbott revealed that he is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms and/or ammunition. Detectives executed a search warrant at Abbott’s home and found two more handguns, two boxes of ammunition, approximately 34.61 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 15.32 grams of powder cocaine, and over $7,500 in suspected drug dealing proceeds.

Abbott was taken to Troop 3 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony) – 3 counts
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Reckless Endangering First Degree (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief

Abbott was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $27,700 unsecured bond.

Troopers Arrest Man for DUI and Felony Drug Charges

The Delaware State Police have arrested 44-year-old Kyleef Watts of Bridgeville, Delaware for DUI and felony drug charges following a traffic stop that took place yesterday afternoon in Bridgeville.

On May 7, 2023, at approximately 5:08 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a white Nissan Murano traveling northbound on Coverdale Road north of Fisher Circle. A computer check of the Murano’s tag showed that the registration had been suspended by the Division of Motor Vehicles for the car not being insured. The trooper stopped the Murano and contacted the driver, identified as Kyleef Watts. The trooper smelled burnt marijuana and observed signs of impairment with Watts. Watts was subsequently taken into custody for DUI. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 385.74 grams (over 13.5 ounces) of marijuana.

Watts was taken to Troop 5 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 1 Quantity (Felony)
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
  • Cancelled Registration

Watts was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and was released on his own recognizance.
