Delaware State Police Investigating Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash Near Ellendale

Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that killed two men last night.

On June 17, 2023, at approximately 10:43 p.m., a Ford Ranger was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed in the left lane of South Dupont Boulevard, south of Fleatown Road. As the vehicle continued overturning, both occupants were ejected. The vehicle eventually stopped in the left lane of North Dupont Highway.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Milford, was not properly seat belted. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died. The passenger, a 29-year-old man from Milford, was not properly seat belted and was pronounced dead on the scene. The identification of both victims is pending notification to their families.

North and South Dupont Boulevard, from Hudson Pond Road to Milton Ellendale Highway, was temporarily shut down for approximately 2.5 hours to investigate the crash and remove any obstructions from the roadway.

Delaware State Police Investigating Bank Robbery in Bear

Delaware State Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred yesterday evening at Wells Fargo.

On June 16, 2023, at approximately 5 p.m., troopers responded to a reported bank robbery at 1601 Governors Place in Bear, Delaware. When troopers arrived, they learned that an unknown suspect entered the bank just before the close of business. Shortly afterward, the suspect approached an employee and provided a note that read, “bomb, bomb…walk slow… don’t talk.” Knowing that the suspect’s actions were that of a robbery, the employee placed an undisclosed amount of money in a bag to give to the suspect. The suspect then demanded the employee walk to the next bank teller to get more money. During that moment, a bank teller was finishing up a large cash deposit for a 54-year-old woman that was standing at the counter. The suspect began to count down loudly, so the woman fled the bank out of fear for her safety and left her large cash deposit behind on the counter. The suspect observed the money, reached over the counter, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect fled the bank on foot and was last seen traveling east through the parking lot towards Bear Christiana Road. Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident. The suspect is reportedly a black male, standing at around 5’8” with an average build, and is believed to be approximately 30 years of age. No additional information about the suspect is available at this time.

Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is still investigating this incident. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective R. Kirchenbauer by calling (302) 365-8428. Information may also be provided by sending a Private Facebook Message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
