Due to impending weather, the run has been rescheduled to October 29, 2023. Lace-up your running shoes and join in on the fun!

This exciting community event promises a memorable experience for runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete looking to set a personal record or simply want to enjoy a morning of fun and fitness with friends and family, the Delaware State Police 100th Anniversary 5k has something for everyone. Troopers Seek Public’s Assistance Locating Suspect Wanted for Theft of Motor Vehicle

Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance locating Dashaun Truitt, 26, of Lincoln, Delaware.

On September 19, 2023, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Delaware State Police were called to the 9000 block of Tharp Road, Seaford, Delaware for a stolen motor vehicle report. The 62-year-old victim of Seaford, Delaware, told the arriving trooper that his friend saw and followed the stolen red 1990 Jeep Wrangler in the area of Hastings Farm Road and Concord Pond Road. The trooper located the Jeep traveling southbound on Concord Pond Road. The Jeep accelerated and began to travel at a high rate of speed as the trooper tried to catch up to it with the emergency equipment activated. The operator, identified as Dashaun Truitt, struck a tombstone before striking a tree, disabling the Jeep. He fled from the stolen vehicle in the area of Henry Drive and Church Road, Seaford, Delaware. Truitt has an active warrant for the following crimes:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief More than $5000 (Felony)
  • Disregard a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Damaging a Burial Place
  • Criminal Mischief Less than $1000
  • Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree
  • Numerous Traffic Offenses

Attempts to find Truitt have been unsuccessful. He is described as a black male, approximately 6’1”, and approximately 265 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

Delaware State Police have identified 44-year-old Justin Zacheis of Woodside, Delaware, as the man who died in a fatal crash on Wednesday morning.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Felton

Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Felton yesterday morning.

On September 13, 2023, at approximately 7:36 a.m., a 2016 Volvo truck tractor pulling an empty trailer was traveling on Sandtown Road and had stopped for the stop sign at the Burnite Mill Road intersection. A 2003 Ford F65 was traveling westbound on Burnite Mill Road, approaching Sandtown Road. The Volvo then turned eastbound on Burnite Mill Road, causing its trailer to enter the path of the Ford. The driver attempted to steer the Ford to the right to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful, causing the vehicle to underride the Volvo’s trailer. The Ford and Volvo, along with its trailer, ended up in a soybean field located off Sandtown Road.

The driver of the Ford, a 44-year-old man from Woodside, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified. The driver of the Volvo, a 48-year-old man from Bear, Delaware, was not injured during the crash. The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours to investigate the crash and remove any obstructions from the road.

Detectives Investigating Attempted ATM Theft

The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted theft of an ATM that occurred Friday morning at a Newark area shopping center.

On September 8, 2023, at approximately 4:22 a.m., troopers responded to the Chase Bank ATM located at 1 Polly Drummond Shopping Center in Newark, for a report of an attempted theft. Upon arrival, troopers located the ATM and a white Ford F-250 in the parking lot. In the ensuing investigation, troopers learned three unknown suspects used the pickup truck to pull a Chase Bank ATM from the ground and drag it approximately 30 feet across the parking lot. The suspects left the ATM and the truck in the parking lot and fled on foot from the scene after they were unable to access the safe within the ATM. Troopers discovered the pickup truck had been stolen from a residence within New Castle County Police Department’s jurisdiction.

While searching the area for the suspects, troopers located a green Ford F-250 with evidence linking it to the attempted ATM theft. The green pickup truck was discovered to have been stolen from the same neighborhood as the white pickup truck. There is no suspect description at this time. Surveillance images and video are not yet available.

The Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating this incident. Detectives are asking residents in the surrounding neighborhoods check their doorbell/property cameras for any possible footage of suspicious persons or the stolen vehicles between 10 p.m. on September 7th to 5 a.m. on September 8th. The Delaware State Police have identified 78-year-old Andrew Carmine Jr., of Ocean View, Delaware, as the man who died in a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred Sunday afternoon in Roxana.

Delaware State Police Investigating a Homicide in Laurel

Delaware State Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in Laurel, Delaware, last night.

On September 10, 2023, at approximately 9:35 p.m., the Laurel Police Department responded to a reported shooting on West Sixth Street within the town limits of Laurel. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a 26-year-old female from Laurel, Delaware, seated inside a vehicle and suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified. A second victim, a 41-year-old man from Millsboro, had also been shot. He was transported to a nearby hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The Laurel Police Department requested the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit to take over the investigation due to its nature. According to a preliminary investigation, an unidentified suspect or suspects fired multiple shots into a vehicle occupied by the two victims and a third person while at the entrance to Little Creek Apartments. The victims then drove to West Sixth Street, where they were contacted by the Laurel Police Department and received medical attention.
