Detectives Investigating Home Invasion in Laurel

The Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred early yesterday morning in Laurel.

On April 6, 2024, at approximately 12:32 a.m., troopers responded to a residence on the 6900 block of Sharptown Road in Laurel for a report of a home invasion. The preliminary investigation revealed approximately five male suspects broke into the home, which was occupied by two teenagers. The suspects ransacked the home and fled with an undisclosed amount of property.

No one in the home was injured. The suspects are described as approximately five masked and armed black males. Surveillance images and video are not yet available.

Detectives Investigating Shots Fired at a Harrington Residence

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Farmington Road in Harrington on Friday night.

On April 5, 2024, at approximately 9:43 p.m., troopers responded to a residence on Farmington Road in Harrington for a report of shots fired. The preliminary investigation revealed the home and an unoccupied sedan in the driveway were struck by gunfire. There was one adult in the home at the time of the shooting, and he was not injured. Troopers recovered numerous shell casings at the scene.

Suspect or suspect vehicle descriptions are unknown at this time. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.

Detectives Seek Public’s Assistance with Road Rage Assault Investigation in Middletown

The Delaware State Police are investigating and seeking witnesses for an assault stemming from a road rage incident that occurred Sunday morning on Route 13 in Middletown.

On March 31, 2024, at approximately 9:31 a.m., troopers responded to an area hospital and made contact with an injured 19-year-old victim from a road rage incident that occurred on Route 13 northbound at Port Penn Road. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was traveling in an orange Kia Forte on Route 13 in the area of Boyds Corner Road in Middletown, when she was involved in a road rage incident with a silver Jeep Cherokee. After both vehicles came to a stop on Route 13’s left turn lane for Route 1 northbound at Port Penn Road, an unknown male suspect exited the Jeep and approached the victim’s vehicle. The victim’s friend, who was stopped in a blue Nissan Rogue also in the left turn lane a few cars ahead, exited her vehicle as she saw the suspect approaching. The victim exited her vehicle, and a physical altercation ensued between the victim, the victim’s friend, and the suspect. The altercation ended after the victim pushed the suspect while he choked her, which led to the suspect falling into the guardrail. The victim then fled in her vehicle, at which point she noticed she was bleeding, but does not recall how or when she sustained the cut to her upper arm.

The suspect is described as an older white male, approximately 5’9″, with a slender build and a long gray beard that reached the top of his chest. The suspect is possibly armed with a black, flip-open style pocketknife. The suspect was wearing a red/white trucker style hat, a red/black long sleeve flannel shirt over a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and black cowboy boots. The suspect’s vehicle (stock image pictured below) is a silver Jeep Cherokee with a hard white registration plate.

Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect and the suspect vehicle as they continue to investigate this incident. State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in New Castle

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred last night in New Castle that left one man dead.

On April 4, 2024, at approximately 8:03 p.m., a black Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound on South Dupont Highway from Frenchtown Road in the middle right lane at an apparent high rate of speed with no lights on. At the same time, a gray 2018 Mazda 3 was turning from the northbound lanes of S. Dupont Highway into the private parking lot of the Wawa located at 117 S. Dupont Highway. As the Mazda was crossing the 4 southbound lanes of travel for S. Dupont Highway, it was struck on the right side by the Harley Davidson. As a result, the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest in the right lane.

The motorcyclist, a 33-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware, was transported to an area hospital, where he died. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The operator of the Mazda, a 16-year-old female from New Castle, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.

Detectives Investigating Wilmington Area Family Dollar Shoplifting Turned Robbery

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shoplifting turned robbery that occurred yesterday afternoon at a Family Dollar in Wilmington.

On April 2, 2024, at approximately 12:45 p.m., troopers responded to the Family Dollar located at 1311 Newport Gap Pike, Wilmington, for a report of a robbery. The preliminary investigation revealed an unknown black male suspect was confronted by Family Dollar employees for concealing items in his jacket. The suspect became aggressive, and a physical altercation ensued before the suspect fled from the store. Once outside, the suspect retrieved a baseball bat from his black four-door sedan and reapproached the store. He then threatened employees with the bat and placed it between the front doors to prevent employees from closing them. After the employees were able to close and lock the front doors, the suspect fled in his sedan in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark colored clothing. Surveillance images and video are not yet available.

Detectives Investigating Ulta Beauty Shoplifting Turned Robbery in Newark

The Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery stemming from a shoplifting that occurred yesterday afternoon at Ulta Beauty in Newark.

On March 28, 2024, at approximately 5:53 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a robbery at the Ulta Beauty located at 2130 Fashion Center Boulevard in Newark. The preliminary investigation revealed two females requested assistance from an Ulta Beauty employee with products in a locked display case. After the employee unlocked the case, one of the suspects pushed the employee and hit her in the face with her arm. The suspects then placed several products in a bag and fled on foot with the unpaid merchandise. Responding troopers searched the area for the suspects, but were unable to locate them. The employee sustained a minor injury.

The suspects are described as black females. As of now, surveillance video and images of the suspects are not available.

State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash in New Castle

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred last night in New Castle that left one woman dead.

On March 28, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., two pedestrians began walking across the northbound lanes of New Castle Avenue from the Super Fuel located at 3006 New Castle Avenue. The male pedestrian continued in a westerly direction as the female pedestrian began walking in a northwesterly direction. At the same time, a silver 2012 Nissan Altima was traveling in the left northbound lane of New Castle Avenue, north of West Avenue. For unknown reasons, the female pedestrian stops in the roadway as the Nissan approaches while the male pedestrian jogs to the median. As a result, the front of the Nissan struck the female pedestrian in the left lane.

The pedestrian, a 56-year-old woman from New Castle, Delaware, was transported to an area hospital, where she died. Her name is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Nissan, a 56-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.
