State Police Investigating Three Vehicle Fatal Crash in Georgetown

The Delaware State Police is investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Friday morning in Georgetown.

On June 19, 2026, at approximately 7:20 a.m., a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on Old Furnace Road, west of Rementer Road. At the same time, a Toyota Sienna, followed by a Nissan Rogue, was traveling westbound on Old Furnace Road toward the Chevrolet. For reasons currently being investigated, the Chevrolet crossed over the dashed center lane markings and sideswiped the Toyota. Afterwards, the Chevrolet continued eastbound, and the front of the Chevrolet struck the front of the Nissan.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 52-year-old man from Lincoln, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The Toyota’s driver, a 50-year-old Georgetown woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan, a 33-year-old man from Seaford, Delaware, was flown by the Delaware State Police Aviation Section to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

State Police Arrest Two Following Pursuit in a Stolen Car in Kent County

The Delaware State Police have arrested 19year-old Aveion Edwards-Thomas and a 16-year-old male, both from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, following a pursuit in a stolen car Wednesday night in Kent County.

On June 17, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., troopers saw a Nissan Altima, that was reported stolen in Pennsylvania, traveling southbound on South Dupont Highway near Walnut Shade Road. Troopers tried to pull it over, but it sped away. During the pursuit, the Altima drove through the community of Canterbury Crossing, collided with a DSP Tahoe, and continued to drive recklessly and at a high rate of speed on several area Kent County roads. The Altima ultimately came to a stop after stop sticks were deployed, and the vehicle struck the wire rope guardrail in the median on Route 1 near Twin Willows Road. The driver, identified as Aveion Edwards-Thomas, and a 16-year-old passenger, were not injured and taken into custody without incident.

Edwards-Thomas was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace, and committed to the Department of Correction on a $2,900 cash bond.

State Police Arrest Bridgeville Man with Stolen Gun and Drugs in Kent County

The Delaware State Police have arrested 26-year-old Kurtrell Wynder, from Bridgeville, Delaware, for felony gun and drug charges following a traffic stop Tuesday in Camden.

On June 16, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Delaware State Police Kent County Special Investigations Unit were patrolling Berrytown Road near Willow Grove Road when they saw a Dodge Durango commit a traffic violation. Detectives pulled the Durango over and spoke to the driver, identified as Kurtrell Wynder. During a consent search of the Durango, detectives found the following items:

  • Loaded 9mm handgun
  • Approximately 3.9 grams of heroin (approximately 130 bags)
  • Approximately .02 grams of cocaine
  • Drug paraphernalia

Following a computer check, detectives learned that the recovered handgun had previously been reported stolen to the Virginia Beach Police Department.

Winder was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace, and committed to the Department of Correction on a $33,601 secured bond.

State Police Arrest Laurel Man for Attempted Murder

The Delaware State Police have arrested 67-year-old Blair Bennett, of Laurel, Delaware, for attempted murder and related charges following a shooting that occurred early this morning in Laurel.

On June 16, 2026, at approximately 2:35 a.m., troopers, along with the Laurel Police Department, responded to a residence on the 6200 block of Phillips Landing Road in Laurel for a report of a shooting. When police arrived, they found a 45-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and provided medical aide. The victim was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The investigation revealed that during an argument the suspect, Blair Bennett, shot the victim. He was taken into custody at the residence without incident. Another person was in the home at the time but was not injured.

Bennett was taken to Troop 5, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace, and committed to the Department of Correction on a $3,198,000 cash bond.

State Police Arrest Magnolia Man for Pointing Gun at School Bus

The Delaware State Police have arrested 62-year-old Charles McCombs, of Magnolia, Delaware, for aggravated menacing after he pointed a gun at students on a school bus.

On June 9, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the School Resource Officer assigned to Polytech High School was notified by school administration of a cell phone video that showed a man pointing a gun at students on a school bus. During the investigation, detectives learned that earlier in the day, while traveling on Peachtree Run near Millchop Lane in Magnolia, a student on the school bus sprayed water from a water gun at a man riding a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle while it was next to the bus. After the being sprayed with water, the motorcyclist yelled at the students, pulled a gun, and pointed it at the school bus as it drove away.

Through investigative means, detectives identified the suspect as Charles McCombs and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On June 11, 2026, McCombs was taken into custody without incident and taken to Troop 3. He was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $48,000 secured bond.

State Police Arrest North Carolina Man for Theft of Copper Wire in Laurel

The Delaware State Police have arrested 41-year-old Gerardo Carmona Hernandez of Shannon, North Carolina, for felony theft of copper wire from a solar field construction site in Laurel.

On June 8, 2026, at approximately 7:45 a.m., troopers responded to the 8000 block of Woodland Ferry Road in Laurel for a report of a theft. When troopers arrived, they learned that between June 4tth and June 8th, an unknown suspect stole nearly 2000 feet of copper wire valued at over $26,000. During the investigation, troopers learned that a man, later identified as Gerardo Carmona Hernandez, had scrapped copper wire on June 5th at Fitzgerald’s Salvage and Recycling in Lincoln, and had returned on June 8th to scrap more copper wire. When troopers responded to Fitzgerald’s, they identified the copper wire as the same that was stolen from the construction site. Hernandez had left Fitzgerald’s before troopers arrived, but when he returned, they saw him driving a Chevrolet Colorado. A computer check showed that Hernandez did not have a valid driver’s license and the truck was uninsured. He was taken into custody without incident.

Hernandez, who was an employee of the solar field construction company, was arrested and taken to Troop 5. He was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and released on his own recognizance.

State Police Arrest Marydel Man for Felony Offenses Following a Pursuit in Kent County

The Delaware State Police have arrested 40-year-old Gary Graham, Jr., from Marydel, Maryland, for reckless endangering and felony gun offenses following a pursuit that occurred last Friday in Kent County,

On June 5, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., a trooper saw a black Mitsubishi Lancer turning southbound on Sandy Bend Road from Westville Road with a registration violation. The trooper tried to pull the car over, but it sped away. During the pursuit, the Mitsubishi drove in a reckless manner and at a high rate of speed on several area roads. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop after it collided with a Dodge Ram on Mahan Corner Road near Grygo Road. The driver of the Dodge, a 54-year-old woman from Marydel, Delaware, suffered minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital. The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as Gary Graham, Jr., was transported to an area hospital for injuries he received in the crash.

During a search of the Mitsubishi, troopers found a 3D printed lower handgun receiver, a digital scale, and drug paraphernalia.

On June 8, 2026, Graham was released from the hospital and taken to Troop 3. He was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on an $81,070 cash bond.

State Police Arrest Maryland Woman Following Fatal Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash in Millville

The Delaware State Police have arrested 46-year-old Kara Gilmore, of Ocean City, Maryland, for vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, DUI, and related charges, following a fatal hit-and-run bicycle crash that occurred Tuesday night in Millville.

On June 9, 2026, at approximately 9:05 p.m., a bicyclist was traveling westbound, in the eastbound bike lane, on Atlantic Avenue east of Whites Neck Road. At the same time, a Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound on Atlantic Avenue east of Whites Neck Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Subaru left the eastbound lane of travel, entered the bike lane, and struck the bicyclist. After striking the bicyclist, the Subaru left the scene but was located a short time later, disabled in the parking lot of Artisan’s Bank on Atlantic Avenue by Ocean View Police Department. When troopers contacted the driver of the Subaru, identified as Kara Gilmore, she showed multiple signs of impairment. After Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, she was arrested for DUI.

The bicyclist, identified as 52-year-old Duane Pershing, from Ocean View, Delaware, was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. On June 10, 2026, he died from his injuries.

Gilmore was taken to Troop 4, where she was initially charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and released on a $3,404 unsecured bond.

On June 11, 2026, troopers obtained an additional warrant for Gilmore, and she was taken into custody in Maryland. Upon extradition to Delaware, she will be charged with the felony offenses of vehicular homicide 2nd Degree and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death.

State Police Arrest Smyrna Man on Drug and Weapons Offenses After Traffic Stop

The Delaware State Police arrested 43-year-old Joseph Kleinen, from Smyrna, Delaware, on felony drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop Tuesday night in Smyrna.

On June 9, 2026, at approximately 8:15 p.m., members of the Delaware State Police Special Investigations Unit were patrolling South Dupont Boulevard near Monrovia Avenue when they saw a U-Haul box truck commit a traffic violation. Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued traveling at a slow speed on southbound South Dupont Boulevard for an extended distance before making a U-turn and proceeding northbound. During the incident, Troopers saw the driver throw a clear plastic bag from the vehicle before pulling over.

Troopers contacted the driver, later identified as Kleinen, and took him into custody without incident. Investigators recovered the discarded bag and determined it contained approximately 7.33 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, troopers located two concealed edged weapons.

A computer check revealed Kleinen is prohibited from possessing deadly weapons due to prior felony convictions and was driving with a suspended license. Through the investigation, troopers determined Kleinen intended to distribute the methamphetamine.

Kleinen was taken to Troop 9 where he was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and released on a $10,002 unsecured bond.
