Delaware State Police

Community Engagement

The Delaware State Police Community Engagement Unit was developed to foster positive relations with our communities in the First State as well as provide training and presentations to members of our community. The Delaware State Police believes our commitment and dedication to building partnerships and relationships with the residential and business communities across Delaware will only enhance our ability to be a highly effective law enforcement agency. Building stronger and safer neighborhoods fostered on trust of the Police. In an effort to achieve this, DSP maintains a presence in our communities’ schools, places of worship, neighborhood associations and civic organizations. By reaching out to communities in our jurisdiction in an open and honest fashion, we will build positive relationships and help to create safer communities and foster open dialogs on challenging issues and perceptions facing law enforcement and the communities we serve.

Citizens Police Academy

The Spring 2023 Citizens Police Academy began on March 29 and concluded on May 24. The Delaware State Police Community Engagement Unit welcomed Delaware citizens from Kent and Sussex Counties to learn more about the Agency, its history and mission, and its civilian and sworn personnel. The Academy was hosted at the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center in Georgetown as well as Troop 7 in Lewes. The group saw numerous presentations and demonstrations from State Police specialized units. Some of the activities included tours of facilities and presentations from the Collision Reconstruction Unit, Public Information Office, Victim Services Unit, Motor Unit, 911 communications, and more! Each session lasted approximately two hours and was held on Wednesday evenings.

Please check back for updates on the date and location of the next Citizens Police Academy class and how to apply!
