Delaware State Police Issue Gold Alert for Missing Dover Man- Dover

Dover- Delaware State Police Troop 3 is issuing a Gold Alert for 28-year-old Joshua Plato of Dover, DE. Joshua was last seen on September 20, 2021, at approximately 8:10 a.m., in the Dover area. Attempts to contact Joshua have been unsuccessful and there is a true concern for his safety and well-being.

Joshua is described as a white male, 6’3″ tall, approximately 170 lbs. with blue eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue/gray t-shirt, blue/yellow bathing suit, and black sneakers.

Troopers Investigating Attempted Carjacking – Wilmington

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that took place in the parking lot of the Acme yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in the parking lot of the Acme located at 1901 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A 68-year-old female victim placed groceries into her vehicle and walked to put her shopping cart away. Upon returning to her vehicle there was a male suspect standing waiting for her and asked for her car keys. The victim attempted to walk away, but the suspect approached her again and demanded the keys. The victim began screaming and ran back to her vehicle. The victim was able to drive off without being injured. The suspect then entered an unknown dark colored vehicle and fled the scene.

The suspect was described as a black male approximately 5’5”-5’10” tall, 180-200 lbs. There are no surveillance images available at this time.

Troopers Arrest Wilmington Man for Burglary and Related Charges- Wilmington

Wilmington- Delaware State Police arrested Kenneth Adams Jr., 48, of Wilmingtonfor burglary and related charges following an incident Wednesday night.

On September 15, 2021, at approximately 11:33 p.m., troopers responded to Cuzino’s Pizza located at 4553 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE, for a burglary complaint. Through investigation, troopers determined the suspect made entry into the business by breaking the glass front entry door. While inside of the business the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the registers and stole multiple bags of chips. Upon trooper’s arrival the suspect fled the scene on foot out of the rear door to the business.

On September 16, 2021, troopers conducted surveillance on Kirkwood Highway in the area of the burglary. Troopers observed the suspect, later identified as Kenneth Adams Jr., matching the description, and wearing the same clothes he wore the previous night during the burglary.

Adams was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Burglary Third Degree (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1,500
  • Criminal Mischief

Adams was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on $15,000 unsecured bond.

Troopers Arrest Pennsylvania Man on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop – Newark

Newark– Delaware State Police have arrested 24-year-old Anerkis Batista of Reading, PA, on felony drug charges following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon in Newark.

On September 15, 2021, at approximately 12:10 p.m., a trooper conducting proactive patrol in the area of Red Mill Road and Diminish Drive, Newark, observed a gray Nissan Sentra make a lane change and right turn without using a signal. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and prior to contact observed the operator throw a bag of an unknown substance out the driver side window. The trooper immediately recovered the bag and determined it to be crack cocaine. The trooper then made contact with the operator and sole occupant, Anerkis Batista, and took him into custody without incident.  In addition to the approximately 5.9 grams of crack cocaine that was recovered, a subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and troopers discovered over $480 is suspected drug proceeds and drug paraphernalia.

Batista was transported to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 1 Quantity (Felony)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (Felony)
  • Failure to Signal

Batista was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and was released on $7,050 unsecured bond.

Troopers Arrest California Man for Aggravated Menacing– Dover

Dover- Delaware State Police have charged 20-year-old Michael Straker of North Hollywood, CA with Aggravated Menacing, and related charges after he struck a male acquaintance with a handgun.

The incident occurred on September 6, 2021, at approximately 5:20 p.m., when troopers responded to the 300 block of Carlisle Drive, Dover, DE, in reference to an assault with a weapon. The investigation determined a 33-year-old male victim had a verbal altercation with Straker. During the argument Straker displayed a black handgun and struck the victim in the side of the head. The suspect then fled on foot prior to police arrival, but troopers located Straker walking on Carlisle Drive and took him into custody without incident. A canvass of the area was conducted, and troopers discovered the handgun in a wooded area behind the residence. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

Straker was transported to Troop 9 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Aggravated Menacing (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Offensive Touching

Straker was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $11,500 secured bond.

Troopers Arrest Pennsylvania Man on Drug and Weapon Charges Following Traffic Stop – Claymont

Claymont– Delaware State Police have arrested 28-year-old Brian Caldwell of Chester, PA, on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop Sunday night in Claymont.

On September 5, 2021, at approximately 11:10 p.m., a trooper conducting proactive patrol in the parking lot of Wawa located at 21 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, observed a black BMW M5 exiting the parking lot with illegal window tinting. While traveling behind the BMW, the troopers observed the vehicle fail to properly use a turn signal while making a turn. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the operator and sole occupant, Brian Caldwell. Upon contact the trooper detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A criminal investigation ensued, and a subsequent probable cause search was conducted. During a search of the vehicle the trooper discovered a loaded Glock 19 handgun,1 ½ Xanax pills, and drug paraphernalia.

Caldwell was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Failure to Signal
  • Improper Window Tinting

Caldwell was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was released on $8,700 unsecured bond.

Delaware State Police Arrest Dover Man for Robbery and Weapons Charges- Hartly/ Milford

Hartly/ Milford- Delaware State Police have arrested 47-year-old Brian Oneill of Dover, DE, for robbery and related charges following two incidents that occurred over the last two weeks.

The first incident occurred on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m., when a white male suspect entered a residence located on the 4000 block of Dot St., Milford. The suspect displayed a black handgun and threatened to kill the 60-year-old female acquaintance. The suspect held the victim at gunpoint and had her drive her vehicle to an atm in the Dover area to withdraw cash. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash from victim the suspect fled on foot.

The second incident occurred on Wednesday, September 01, 2021, at approximately 9:23 a.m., when troopers responded to the 1500 block of Tuxward Road, Hartly for a robbery. Investigation revealed a 70-year-old female victim observed an unknown white male seated in a shed on her property. The suspect was holding a black handgun and was wearing a black mask that covered the bottom portion of his face. The suspect pointed the handgun at the victim and threatened to kill her if she contacted the police. A second victim, a 46-yearold male then arrived at the residence. The suspect pointed the handgun at the male victim and threatened to kill him. The suspect then entered the male victim’s GMC Yukon and fled the scene.

Through investigative means Brian Oneill was determined to be the suspect and troopers obtained a warrant for his arrest. On Friday, September 3, 2021, Oneill was located in Dover area and troopers successfully took him into custody.

Oneill was transported to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Felony (Felony)- 2 Counts
  • Home Invasion Burglary 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm within 10 years of a Prior Conviction (Felony)- 2 Counts
  • Kidnapping 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Robbery 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Aggravated Menacing (Felony)- 2 Counts
  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)- 2 Counts
  • Terroristic Threatening Threat to Kill a Victim 62 Years or Older (Felony)
  • Possession of Burglar Tools (Felony)
  • Terroristic Threatening
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Malicious Interference Emergency Communication

Oneill was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $354,253 cash bond.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision- Dagsboro

Dagsboro- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of Nine Foot Road and Hickory Hill Road.

On September 3, 2021, at approximately 12:35 p.m., a 2020 Ford Explorer operated by an 88-year-old male, was traveling southbound on Hickory Hill Road, approaching the intersection of Nine Foot Road. At this time, a 2000 Isuzu NPR flatbed delivery truck, operated by a 30-year-old male, was traveling eastbound on Nine Foot Road, approaching the intersection with Hickory Hill Road. The operator of the Ford failed to stop at the intersection and entered the intersection, directly into the path of the Isuzu. The operator of the Isuzu attempted to avoid the collision, but ultimately struck the passenger side of the Ford. After impact, both vehicles exited the south east corner of the intersection where they came to rest in a standing corn field.

There were two occupants, an 88-year-old male and an 84-year-old female inside of the Ford. The 88-year-old male operator who was properly restrained and was transported to Nanticoke hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. The 84-year-old female passenger who was properly restrained was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 30-year-old male operator of the Isuzu who was properly restrained was transported to Nanticoke hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The intersection of Nine Foot Road and Hickory Hill Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was being investigated and the roadway cleared.

Impairment and speed do not appear to be a factor for any operator.

The investigation remains on-going.
