The Delaware State Police have arrested 67-year-old Douglas Clay, of Millsboro, Delaware, for felony assault, felony DUI, and related offenses following a stabbing and pursuit that occurred Saturday night in Long Neck.
On September 12, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m., troopers responded to The Crab Barn, located at 32600 Long Neck Road, for a report of a stabbing. When troopers arrived, they learned that a 44-year-old man had been stabbed by a male suspect, identified as Douglas Clay, following a disagreement over a seat at the bar. The victim was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Before troopers arrived, Clay had fled on a motorcycle, and a short time later, troopers saw Clay traveling northbound on Indian Mission Road. Troopers tried to pull him over, but he sped away. During the pursuit, Clay drove in a reckless manner and at a high rate of speed on several area roads and ultimately came to a stop in Milton where he was taken into custody. Clay was taken to an area hospital for a medical issue and during their contact with him, troopers observed multiple signs of impairment.
After being released from the hospital, Clay was taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace, and committed to the Department of Correction on a $129, 018 cash bond.
- Assault 1st Degree – Intentional Serious Injury (Felony)
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
- 4th Offense DUI (Felony)
- Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
- Resisting Arrest
- Multiple Pursuit Related Traffic Offenses
