State Police Arrest Employee at Senior Living Community for Burglary

The Delaware State Police arrested 50-year-old John Oboyle of Newark, Delaware, on burglary and related charges for stealing from a resident at a senior living community in Greenville on Monday.

On December 17, 2025, troopers responded to Stonegates Senior Living Community, located at 4031 Kennett Pike, in Greenville, for a report of a theft. Troopers learned a resident noticed their medicine and other items had gone missing on several occasions. The resident installed a camera system in their home, complete with visible and hidden cameras. On December 15, 2025, the camera system captured Oboyle, a Stonegates maintenance worker, stealing the resident’s prescription medication and part of the newly installed camera system. Although Oboyle had access to the resident’s home, he did not have a legitimate reason to go inside.

On December 17, 2025, troopers arrested Oboyle in Newark and took him to Troop 1. Oboyle was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and released on a $6,000.00 unsecured bond.

  • Burglary Second Degree (Felony)
  • Acquire or Obtain Possession of a Controlled Substance by Theft (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1,500 and Victim is 62 Yrs or Older (Felony)
