State Police Arrest Driver for Vehicular Homicide Following Fatal Crash Investigation

Delaware State Police have arrested 46-year-old Omar Mendoza of New Castle, Delaware, for vehicular homicide and traffic-related charges, following a two-vehicle fatal collision that occurred Sunday morning in Bear.

On September 28, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling eastbound on US Route 40 near Fir Avenue. The passenger of the Suzuki, a 44-year-old woman from New Castle, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.

The operator of the Suzuki, a 36-year-old man from Bear, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Omar Mendoza, was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

After being released from the hospital, Mendoza was taken to Troop 2 and charged with the crimes listed below. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $10,250 cash bond.
