State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Newark

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Newark that left one man dead.

On June 2, 2024, at approximately 4:11 p.m., a black 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed in the left lane of E. Chestnut Hill Road eastbound approaching the intersection with Gender Road. At the same time, a gray 2016 Nissan Rogue was turning left on a flashing red arrow from the left turn lane on E. Chestnut Hill Road westbound onto Gender Road southbound. As the Nissan was crossing the eastbound lanes of E. Chestnut Hill Road, the front of the Kawasaki struck the front passenger side of the Nissan. After the impact, the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle, and the Nissan struck a blue 2013 BMW 650i that was stopped at a red light on Gender Road northbound.

The motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man from Bear, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Nissan, a 28-year-old man, and the driver of the BMW, a 24-year-old man, both from Newark, Delaware, were not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours while the investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues investigating this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Master Corporal R.
