Troopers Arrest Man for Gun Charges Following Suspicious Persons Investigation in North Wilmington

The Delaware State Police arrested 18-year-old Logan Smith of Aston, Pennsylvania, on numerous felony gun charges following a suspicious persons investigation that occurred at a North Wilmington shopping center last night.

On October 24, 2023, at approximately 8:34 p.m., troopers responded to the area of Fairfax Shopping Center located on Concord Pike in Wilmington for reports of multiple subjects allegedly carrying firearms behind the shopping center. Troopers arrived at the scene and located a group of people behind Dogtopia of Wilmington located at 2101 Concord Pike. As troopers approached the group, several of the subjects fled on foot into the adjacent neighborhood. While searching the area, a trooper observed a suspicious male walking on Thomas Road. The male, later identified as Logan Smith, was stopped and a pat down search led to the discovery of a loaded handgun in his waistband. He was taken into custody without incident.

Smith was transported to Troop 1, where a computer inquiry revealed he is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm and/or ammunition. He was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of an Assault Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Possession of Weapon with a Removed, Obliterated, or Altered Serial Number (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Firearm (Felony)
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest

Smith was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $47,300 cash bond.
