State Police Arrest Seaford Man for Felony Assault and Weapon Related Charges

Delaware State Police arrested 51-year-old Richard Weston of Seaford, Delaware for felony assault and weapon related charges on Friday.

On September 14, 2023, at approximately 4:17 p.m., troopers were called to the 12000 block of Jones Dogwood Lane, Bridgeville, Delaware for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, the trooper contacted an injured 54-year-old female victim, an injured 36-year-old female victim, and witnesses. Both victims were from Bridgeville, Delaware. The investigation revealed the suspect, identified as Richard Weston, had an argument with the victims when he repeatedly trespassed onto their property. During the argument, Weston retrieved a garden rake home from a neighbor’s property and assaulted the 54-year-old female victim, causing puncture injuries in her torso. Weston also struck the 36-year-old female victim in her face with his hands causing her to have a swollen eye and laceration on her left hand. Both victims were taken to an area hospital by ambulance for their injuries. Weston fled the area on foot prior to trooper’s arrival.

An arrest warrant was issued for Weston. On September 15, 2023, troopers located and arrested Weston. He was transported to Troop 5 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Assault 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Aggravated Menacing 2x (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Assault 3rd Degree
  • Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree

Weston was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $83,050 cash bond.
