State Police Arrest Man for DUI and Felony Gun Charges

The Delaware State Police arrested 36-year-old Franklin Roberson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for DUI and gun charges following a traffic stop early this morning in Dover.

On September 15, 2023, at approximately 1:22 a.m., a trooper patrolling the area of US-13 and Rose Bowl Road in Dover observed a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling southbound on US-13 at a high rate of speed with no taillights illuminated. The trooper conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver, identified as Franklin Roberson. As the trooper was speaking with Roberson, he observed signs of impairment and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Roberson’s breath. Field sobriety tests were administered, and Roberson was taken into custody without incident. Prior to being towed, an inventory search of the Jeep led to the discovery of a loaded handgun that was concealed between the driver’s seat and center console and an additional magazine concealed in the center console.

Roberson was taken to Troop 9 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Firearm (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence
  • Traffic Offenses

Roberson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $27,004 secured bond.
