The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted theft of an ATM that occurred Friday morning at a Newark area shopping center.
On September 8, 2023, at approximately 4:22 a.m., troopers responded to the Chase Bank ATM located at 1 Polly Drummond Shopping Center in Newark, for a report of an attempted theft. Upon arrival, troopers located the ATM and a white Ford F-250 in the parking lot. In the ensuing investigation, troopers learned three unknown suspects used the pickup truck to pull a Chase Bank ATM from the ground and drag it approximately 30 feet across the parking lot. The suspects left the ATM and the truck in the parking lot and fled on foot from the scene after they were unable to access the safe within the ATM. Troopers discovered the pickup truck had been stolen from a residence within New Castle County Police Department’s jurisdiction.
While searching the area for the suspects, troopers located a green Ford F-250 with evidence linking it to the attempted ATM theft. The green pickup truck was discovered to have been stolen from the same neighborhood as the white pickup truck. There is no suspect description at this time. Surveillance images and video are not yet available.
The Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating this incident. Detectives are asking residents in the surrounding neighborhoods check their doorbell/property cameras for any possible footage of suspicious persons or the stolen vehicles between 10 p.m. on September 7th to 5 a.m. on September 8th.
