Detectives Arrest Man for Reckless Endangering and Gun Offenses

The Delaware State Police have arrested 35-year-old Jermaine Thomas of Seaford, Delaware for reckless endangering and gun offenses in Laurel early yesterday morning.

On August 1, 2023, at approximately 12:16 a.m., troopers responded to the 34000 block of Susan Beach Road, Laurel, for multiple reports of an unknown man knocking on doors. Upon arriving at the scene, troopers made contact with the suspicious man, later identified as Jermaine Thomas, and discovered he was heavily intoxicated and concealing a firearm. A struggle ensued when troopers were taking Thomas into custody, which led to Thomas’ firearm discharging in the immediate area of the troopers. Thomas was taken into custody without further incident and the firearm was recovered from where it had fallen on the ground. There were no reported injuries.

A computer inquiry of the recovered firearm revealed it was reported as stolen. Thomas was taken to Troop 5 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Firearm (Felony)
  • Reckless Endangering First Degree (Felony) – 2 counts
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence

Thomas was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $45,000 cash bond.
