Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon Arrest

Delaware State Police have arrested 38-year-old Romeo Hammond-Henderson of Wilmington, DE following a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

On March 16, 2023, at approximately 2:05 a.m., a trooper on patrol observed a gray Honda Accord traveling eastbound on Geoffrey Drive, Newark with a headlight out. A traffic stop was initiated, and the Honda came to a stop on the shoulder of eastbound Churchmans Road. Upon contact with the driver, identified as Romeo Hammond-Henderson, the trooper conducted a computer inquiry and determined he had a suspended driver’s license.  Hammond-Henderson was taken into custody without incident and a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun.

Hammond-Henderson was transported to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon a Firearm Felony)
  • Driving While Suspended / Revoked
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
  • Motor Vehicle Must Have 2 Head Lamps

Hammond-Henderson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an $8,502 cash bond.
