Delaware State Police Arrest Man for Attempting to Disarm Trooper

The Delaware State Police arrested 47-year-old Joseph Twisler of Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, following an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon in Newark.

On Monday, March 6, 2023, at approximately 2:32 p.m., troopers responded to Christ the Teacher Catholic School located at 2451 Frazer Road, Newark, for a report of a disorderly and intoxicated subject. When troopers arrived, they observed a subject later identified as Joseph Twisler, passed out on the sidewalk, in front of the chapel. When troopers contacted Twisler, he began throwing punches toward troopers, and a physical altercation ensued. During the altercation, Twisler attempted to remove a firearm from the trooper’s holster. Ultimately, troopers were able to take Twisler into custody.

Further investigation revealed, Twisler verbally confronted several parents prior to police arrival. In addition, he pushed one of those parents during a physical altercation. None of the parents or law enforcement sustained any injuries during the incident.

Twisler was transported to an area hospital where he received medical treatment for minor injuries. He was later transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Removing or Attempting to Remove a Firearm/Deadly Weapon from Possession of a Law Enforcement Officer (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence (Felony)
  • Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer (Misdemeanor)
  • Offensive Touching (Misdemeanor)
  • Menacing (Misdemeanor)
  • Disorderly Conduct (Misdemeanor)
  • Loitering At or Around a School (Violation)
  • Criminal Trespass (Violation)

 

 

Twisler was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was released after posting bail on a $6,500 secured bond.
