Wilmington- Delaware State Police arrested Deonte Gardner, 23, of Wilmington, DE, on weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop Thursday morning.
On March 3, 2022, at approximately 10:48 p.m., police dispatch broadcasted a description to responding troopers of a bronze Kia Sportage that was exiting northbound I-495 onto Eastbound 12th Street whose occupants were involved in an altercation inside of the vehicle involving a firearm. A trooper in the area immediately located the vehicle and initiated a car stop on 12th Street, Wilmington. The two occupants inside of the vehicle were ordered out and taken into custody without incident.
After detaining both occupants, identified as Deonte Gardner and the operator, a 40-year-old female acquaintance, troopers discovered Gardner was in possession a loaded black 9mm handgun and approximately 2.94 grams of crack cocaine. A subsequent computer inquiry revealed the discovered firearm was reported stolen by Wilmington Police Department.
Gardner was then transported to Troop 1 where he was charged with the following crimes:
Gardner was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $18,500 secured bond.
