Clayton, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Christopher S. Porter, 37, of Smyrna, on Wednesday night for a homicide that occurred in August.

On Friday, August 20, 2021, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit responded to assist the Clayton Police Department with a deceased male located in his residence in the 200 block of South Rodney Street, Clayton, DE. The investigation determined a family member of the victim, Richard L. George Jr., 65, of Clayton, DE, had responded to the residence to check on him. When they arrived, George’s 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis was discovered missing from the driveway and the side door to the home unlocked. Once inside, George was found deceased on the living room floor with visible trauma to the upper body. George’s body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science for a post mortem examination to determine the cause and manner of death. The cause of death was Blunt Force Trauma and Asphyxiation, and the manner of death was Homicide.

Detectives collected evidence from the crime scene and submitted the items to the Division of Forensic Science for DNA testing. A search of the State DNA Database (SDIS) was conducted, and a positive match was made with the known profile of Christopher Porter. Through additional investigative leads, detectives were also able to link Porter to the incident.

On December 15, 2021, an arrest warrant was obtained for Porter. He was taken into custody without incident by troopers and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 3, where he was charged with Murder First Degree (Felony) and Robbery First Degree (Felony).

Porter was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $320,000.00 cash bond.

Detectives are still looking for the victim’s vehicle, a gray 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis bearing Delaware registration PC389915. If you have information regarding the vehicle or this investigation, please contact Detective Daniel Grassi with the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit by calling (302) 365-8441.
