Drug Investigation Leads to the Arrest of Felton Man for Felony Possession of Drugs – Kent County

Kent County- Delaware State Police Kent County Drug Unit with the assistance of Kent County Governor’s Task Force, DSP Intel/Gang Unit, United States Marshall’s Task Force, and Dover Police Department Drugs, Vice, and Organized Crime Unit have concluded a multiple month investigation on Kiantia Mitchell, 27, of Felton for receiving, possessing, and selling illegal drugs. 

On December 8, 2021, troopers with the assistance of the Dover Police Department, conducted a traffic stop on a white sedan in the area of Scarborough Road and Route 1, Dover. Upon contact, troopers identified Kiantia Mitchell as the front passenger. Mitchell was taken into custody without incident for active felony warrants out of Troop 3 for felony drug possession. The operator of the sedan identified as Tyree Smith, 27, of Frederica, and rear passenger, Davonte Hodge, 27, of Felton, were also taken into custody. All three suspects were then transported back to Troop 3. The vehicle was towed to Troop 3, where a vehicle search warrant was obtained. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 12.3 grams heroin, approximately 46 grams of marijuana, 8 Percocets, and drug related paraphernalia. 

Further investigation revealed the drugs in the vehicle belonged to Mitchell, and he was charged with the following:

  • Manufacture/Deliver Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Not Related to Personal Use Quantity Marijuana
  • Possession of Marijuana – Personal Use Quantity (Civil Violation)

Mitchell was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 for the above charges, as well as his active felony warrants, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute on a $38,001 secured bail.

Hodge, the rear passenger was released with a criminal summons for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia.

Smith, the operator was arraigned for active felony warrants out of Troop 3 for weapon offenses, and released with a traffic citation for driving while suspended, and possession of marijuana (civil violation). Smith was released after posting bail for a $1,100 secured bond on his outstanding felony charge.
