Troopers Arrest Delmar Man on Drug and Weapon Charges Following Traffic Stop- Seaford

Seaford- Delaware State Police arrested 32-year-old Troy Smith of Delmar, MD, on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop Friday night.

On November 26, 2021, at approximately 7:51 p.m., a trooper on routine patrol on Concord Road in the area of Concord Pond Road observed a red Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling on Concord Pond Road without proper lighting above the registration plate. A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with the operator and sole occupant, Troy Smith. Upon contact, the trooper observed suspected drugs in plain sight and took Smith into custody without incident. Subsequently, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and the trooper discovered a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, approximately .007 grams of heroin, 4 Hydrocodone pills, and multiple drug paraphernalia. A computer inquiry revealed Smith is a person prohibited from possessing a weapon and has a suspended license.

Smith was transported to Troop 5 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – 2 counts
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- 2 counts
  • Driving with a Suspended License
  • Failure to Have a Registration Plate Light

Smith was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,950 cash bond.
