Troopers Arrest Two Suspects on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop- Newport

Newport– Delaware State Police arrested 27-year-old Tyerin Anderson of Wilmington and 25-year-old Aaron Barrett of Newark on drug charges following a traffic stop Tuesday night.

On November 2, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., members of the Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force Unit were conducting proactive enforcement in the Newport area. Unit members observed a silver Honda Accord traveling northbound Route 141 make a lane change to the exit ramp of Boxwood Road without utilizing a turn signal. GTF members initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the operator, identified as Tyerin Anderson and front seat passenger, identified as Aaron Barrett. During this interaction, members detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. Both occupants were subsequently detained without incident.

A probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 1.862 grams of heroin, approximately 20 grams of Marijuana, and over $750.00 in suspected drug proceeds.

Anderson and Barrett were transported to Troop 2 where they were each charged with the following crimes:

Anderson

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Failure to Signal

Anderson was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on $3,600 unsecured bond.

Barrett

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)

Barrett was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on $3,500 unsecured bond.
