Troopers Arrest Claymont Teen with Theft of a Motor Vehicle- Wilmington

Wilmington- Delaware State Police have arrested a 15-year-old male of Claymont, DE, for theft of a motor vehicle after an incident on Monday night.

On Monday, October 18, 2021, at approximately 7:59 p.m., troopers responded to the Eagle Tobacco shop located at 3505 Miller Road, Wilmington, for a motor vehicle theft. Troopers learned that a 47-year-old male parked his silver 2015 Chevrolet Malibu in front of the store and went inside to make a purchase while leaving the vehicle unsecured and running. While inside of the store a silver vehicle pulled up next to the Malibu when a suspect got out, entered the Malibu and drove off .

Through investigative means troopers located the suspect vehicle unoccupied on the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington. Troopers monitored the stolen vehicle and observed the suspect return a brief time later. After a foot pursuit, troopers successfully apprehended the suspect.

The 15-year-old suspect was transported back to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest with Force (Felony)

The 15-year-old suspect was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on $2,000 unsecured bond.
