Smyrna– Delaware State Police have arrested 21-year-old Nasir Wright of Wilmington, DE, on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop Thursday morning in Smyrna.

On September 30, 2021, at approximately 1:40 a.m., a trooper conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Route 1 south of Exit 114, clocked a gray Kia Optima traveling northbound Route 1 over 100 miles per hour. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with three occupants inside of the vehicle. Upon contact the trooper detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A criminal investigation ensued, and a subsequent probable cause search was conducted. During a search of the vehicle the trooper discovered a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun, approximately 108.03 grams of marijuana, approximately 60.13 of psilocybin mushrooms, and over $180 in suspected drug proceeds.

Investigation determined the front seat passenger, identified as Nasir Wright was the suspect in possession of the above recovered items. Wright was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 9 where he was charged with the following crimes:

• Possession of a Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited (Felony)
• Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
• Possession with an Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (Felony) – 2 counts

Wright was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and was released on $10,000 unsecured bond.

The 21-year-old operator of the Kia Optima was cited for speeding.
