Milford, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Aerza E. Smith, 24, of Magnolia, on weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop early Monday morning.
On May 31, 2021, at approximately 1:16 a.m., troopers observed a gray Kia Optima traveling southbound on Shawnee road with a headlight out. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and contact was made with the driver, Aerza E. Smith. A strong odor of marijuana was detected from inside the vehicle, and Smith was removed without incident for a search to be conducted. The following items were located inside the Kia:
- 1- loaded Taurus 9mm handgun
- 1- empty 9mm 12 round clip
- 1-partially full 30 round 9mm clip
- 1-small box of 9mm ammunition
- drug paraphernalia
- approximately 48.66 grams of marijuana
Smith was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 5, where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
- Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
- Breach of Conditions of Bond (Felony)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
- Failure to have Two Head Lights
Smith was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $52,250.00 secured bond.
