Wilmington- The Delaware State Police arrested 24-year-old Chezkera Wilson (no photograph available) of Newark, DE, for DUI after she was involved in a crash with a state police vehicle.
The incident occurred on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at approximately 4:30 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to southbound I-95 in the area of Beech Street to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked partially in the roadway. Troopers located the vehicle and were attempting to remove the traffic hazard. Due to the dangerous area the vehicle was stopped, a second trooper positioned his patrol vehicle in the right lane of southbound I-95 just North of the scene with his emergency lights activated to warn approaching motorists. After several minutes on scene, a 2016 Chevy Malibu operated by Chezkera Wilson was traveling in the right lane of southbound I-95 and failed to yield. The front of the Malibu struck the rear of the state police Tahoe.
The 4-year veteran trooper and Wilson were the sole occupants in their respective vehicles. Both operators were transported to an area hospital for non-life threating injuries.
During the investigation, it was suspected that Wilson was operating her vehicle under the influence. Subsequently a DUI investigation ensued.
Wilson was later released from the hospital and issued a traffic summons for the following:
- Driving a Vehicle under the Influence of Alcohol
- Fail to Yield/ Change Lanes for Stopped Emergency Vehicle
- Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
- Failure to Change Address on License
Southbound I-95 was closed for approximately 3 hours as the collision was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.
