Laurel Man Arrested on Burglary and Related Charges Following Pursuit- Laurel

Laurel- Delaware State Police arrested 49-year-old Robert L. Jefferson of Laurel, who was wanted on felony criminal charges.

On May 6, 2021, Delaware State Police were conducting directed patrols in the area of East Trap Pond Road, attempting to locate Robert Jefferson. Jefferson had active warrants out of Delaware State Police Troop 4 for a burglary that occurred on April 26, 2021. A trooper in the area observed Jefferson operating a gray Nissan Sentra and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. Jefferson failed to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Jefferson eventually stopped and fled into a wooded area near Shiloh Church Road. Troopers searched the wooded area with negative results. At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021, Jefferson exited the woods and was taken into custody by Delaware State Police. He was transported to Troop 4, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Reckless Driving
  • Driving Vehicle at Unreasonable Speed
  • Failure to Stop at Stop Sign
  • Burglary 3rd Degree (Felony)
  • 3 counts- Theft of a Firearm (Felony)
  • Theft Over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1,500
  • Criminal Mischief

Jefferson was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $15,500 secured bond.
