Troopers Arrest Georgetown Man on Criminal and Traffic Charges- Georgetown

Date Posted: Friday, January 29th, 2021

Georgetown- Delaware State Police arrested 30-year-old Tyler Melvin of Georgetown on criminal and traffic charges as a result of two separate incidents.

On January 26, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to a residence in the 22000 block of Sussex Pines Rd. for a reported theft. The investigation determined Tyler Melvin responded to the residence to gather his belongings. While there, Tyler engaged in a verbal argument with his 66-year-old ex-roommate. The argument escalated, and Tyler hit the victim with his hand before he took the victim’s golden retriever dog and fled the scene.

On January 27, 2021, at approximately 7:19 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the area of Cedar Creek Road and Johnson Road, Lincoln, was conducting moving radar when a silver 1995 Lincoln Town Car was observed traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on Cedar Creek Road. The trooper attempted a traffic stop on the Lincoln, but it failed to pull over and continued to travel at a high rate of speed while making multiple traffic violations. The trooper pursued the vehicle with its emergency equipment activated, but the vehicle failed to pull over. The pursuit was discontinued due to the operator’s reckless driving. A computer inquiry conducted on the Lincoln revealed Tyler was recently associated with the vehicle, and a recent arrest photograph positively identified Tyler as the operator.

Tyler was later located that night by troopers as he was sleeping in his car on Cedar Creek Road, Milford. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Theft Under $1,500 Where the Victim is 62 Years or Older (Felony)
  • Offensive Touching
  • Disregarding a Police Officers Signal (Felony)
  • Multiple Traffic Violations

Tyler was processed and arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $5,500.00 secured bond.
