Wilmington Man Arrested for Robbing Convenience Store- New Castle

New Castle- Delaware State Police arrested 27-year-old Lionel B. Lewis of Wilmington after robbing a convenience store Friday night.

On January 22, 2021, at approximately 8:53 p.m., troopers responded to the Royal Farms located at 2160 New Castle Avenue for a reported robbery that just occurred. The investigation determined Lewis stole and damaged merchandise from the store before physically assaulting the 48-year-old female store employee and fled the scene.

Prior to troopers’ arrival, a description of the suspect and the last known direction of travel was provided. A trooper was conducting a property check of the area, searching for the suspect, and located Lewis walking behind the Super G Market in the Crossroads Plaza. Lewis was taken into custody after a brief struggle. During a search incident to arrest, located on Lionel’s person were four 2mg Alprazolam pills and four 2mg Xanax pills.

Lewis was transported to Troop 2, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Robbery 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest With Force (Felony)
  • Assault 3rd Degree
  • Criminal Impersonation
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (2 counts)
  • Criminal Mischief

A computer inquiry also determined Lewis was wanted on three active Superior Court Violation of Probation warrants.

Lewis was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $21,000 secured bond.
