Troopers Arrest Two Wilmington Men on Drugs and Weapons Charges – New Castle

New CastleThe Delaware State Police have arrested 25 year-old Jahlil Smith of Wilmington and 29 year-old Khadeem Reams of Wilmington, for drugs and weapons charges after a traffic stop early this morning.

On October 20, 2020, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force (GTF) (Delaware State Police & Probation and Parole) conducted proactive patrols in the New Castle area, due to a recent increase in violent crime. Unit members observed a white Ford Fusion traveling northbound on Route 13 through a construction zone approaching Hazeldell Ave. The vehicle made numerous lane changes while in the construction zone without using its turn signal. A motor vehicle stop was conducted and two subjects identified as Jahlil Smith and Khadeem Reams were located within the vehicle. During contact an odor of marijuana was detected emitting from the vehicle.

Subsequently, a search of the vehicle was conducted and Troopers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun and a loaded 40 caliber handgun. In addition, Troopers discovered approximately .5 grams of marijuana.

Both suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2 where they were charged with the following:

Jahlil Smith

  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm if Convicted of 2 Violent Felonies (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Possession of Ammunition by Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Failure to Signal – 3 counts

Smith was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $30,250.00 cash bond.

Khadeem Reams

  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony) – 2 counts
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)- 2 counts
  • Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Felony) – 2 counts
  • Possession of Ammunition by Person Prohibited (Felony) – 2 counts
  • Possession of Marijuana

Reams was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $55,100.00 cash bond.
