Traffic Stops Leads to Drugs and Weapon Charges – Wilmington

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police arrested 24-year-old Elizah Richardson of Wilmington, DE after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a handgun.

The incident occurred on October 10, 2020, at approximately 7:41 p.m., when a Trooper observed a silver Dodge Nitro traveling northbound on Governor Printz Blvd. at Rysing Drive with tinted windows. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, Elizah Richardson. Upon contact the Trooper smelled an odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle.

A consent search of the vehicle was conducted by the Trooper who located a Springfield 9mm handgun inside the trunk. The handgun was loaded with 34 rounds of ammunition. Also located inside of the trunk was approximately 9.28 grams of marijuana.

Richardson was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of  a Deadly Weapon By Person Prohibited (felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
  • Operating a Vehicle With Improper Window Tinting

Richardson was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $7,100 cash bond.
