Delaware State Police Arrest Lewes Man on multiple criminal and traffic charges- Lewes

Date Posted: Wednesday, September 9th, 2020

Lewes- Delaware State Police arrested 34-year-old Clinton Dulaney of Lewes on multiple criminal and traffic charges.

On September 8,2020, at approximately 5:51 p.m., troopers responded to the 18000 block of Belle Grove Road, Lewes, for a report of an intoxicated male in a black Jeep striking vehicles in the parking lot and attempting to hit a male subject in an adjacent field. The first trooper to arrive on scene located the vehicle in the field being operated by Dulaney and initially took him into custody without incident. As additional troopers arrived on scene, Dulaney was actively struggling with the trooper and refusing to get into the patrol vehicle. Once inside the police car, Dulaney began kicking the window in an attempt to escape from custody. As a result, extensive damage was caused to the vehicle. He was transported to Troop 7 where he continued to resist.

Through the criminal investigation, it was determined Dulaney was intoxicated and responded to the location to make contact with an acquaintance, knowing he was not welcome. The acquaintance heard a loud noise outside his residence and saw Dulaney ramming his Jeep into his 2016 Ford Explorer. Dulaney then came to the front door of the residence and kicked in the locked door before running inside. The acquaintance exited the residence and called 911 while Dulaney ran back to his vehicle and again proceeded to strike the parked Ford Explorer. Dulaney then began driving in the field attempting to hit the subject but was unsuccessful.

During the incident, Dulaney also struck and damaged a 2012 Toyota Venza, 2016 Jeep Patriot and the front gate of the Plantations community.

Dulaney was charged with the following crimes:

  • Burglary 2nd Degree (felony)
  • Reckless Endangering 1st Degree (felony)
  • 3rd Offense DUI-Alcohol (felony)
  • Criminal Mischief $5000 or more (4 counts- felony)
  • Resisting Arrest with force (felony)
  • Failure to Comply with Taking of Photos and Fingerprints
  • Attempt to Commit Escape 3rd Degree
  • Malicious Mischief by a Motor Vehicle
  • Criminal Mischief Under $1000 Damage Property
  • Driving Without a Valid License
  • Knowingly Operate a Motor Vehicle on Private Property without Consent of Owner

Dulaney was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #3 for the charges and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $27,450 secured bond.
