Troopers Arrest Bridgeville Man for Burglary-Bridgeville

Bridgeville- The Delaware State Police arrested 32-year-old RONALD D. SMITH for burglary and related charges.

On August 24, 2020, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 7000 block of  Federalsburg Road, Bridgeville, in reference to a burglary not in progress.  Upon arrival, Troopers learned that Smith, who is a next-door neighbor had obtained a ladder from the garage of the residence and proceeded to enter the house through a second floor window.  The landlord of the residence, a 68-year-old female was not at the home during this incident.  A tenant was at the residence at this time, however did not have contact with Smith.

Troopers responded to Smith’s residence at which time, Smith proceeded to take off running.  Smith was subsequently apprehended a short distance away and taken into custody without further incident.  A computer inquiry revealed that Smith had a no contact order and was to stay 100 or more yards away from the residence.  Smith was transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with the following:

  • Burglary First Degree – Occupied Dwelling (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1500 Where a Victim is 62 Yrs of Age or Older (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Breach of Release

Smith was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $7000.00 secured bond.
