Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges-Lewes

Lewes- The Delaware State arrested 38-year-old TERRANCE L. BARNES of Millsboro, DE after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.

The incident occurred on August 11, 2020, at approximately 7:39 p.m., when a Trooper observed a silver Lincoln Town Car traveling southbound on Coastal Highway (SR 1) in the area of Caveneck Road.  A computer inquiry revealed that the registered owner, Terrance L. Barnes had a suspended driver’s license.  The operator of the vehicle proceeded traveling on SR 1 above the posted speed limit.  A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with Barnes.

A subsequent search of Barnes, led to the discovery of crack cocaine (approximately 2.55 grams) and drug paraphernalia concealed on his person.  Barnes was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Speeding in Excess of 55 MPH

Barnes was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
