Juvenile Charged with Armed Robbery- Townsend

Townsend- The Delaware State Police have arrested a 17-year-old male of Townsend for armed robbery.

On May 16, 2020, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Troopers responded to a robbery that occurred in the parking lot of the Townsend Municipal Park located on Edgar Drive in the community of Townsend Village in Townsend, Delaware. The investigation revealed a 24-year-old male of New Castle and 21-year-old female of Townsend were seated inside a vehicle within the park, watching a movie in the backseat. The individuals heard a loud sound at the rear passenger door, and then the door was opened by the defendant. The defendant pointed a handgun at the victims and demanded the victims turn over their money, or he would kill them. The male victim exited the vehicle and located his wallet in the center console and threw it to the defendant. The defendant was angry because he did not obtain any money and fled the area in an unknown direction. No one sustained injuries during this incident.

The Delaware State Police, through investigative means and evidence, the 17-year-old male was established as a suspect.

On July 2, 2020, the juvenile and his guardian responded to Troop 2. The juvenile was charged with the following crimes:

  • Robbery 1st Degree (felony)
  • Aggravated Menacing (felony)

He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $26,000 secured bond.
