Newport Man Arrested for Felony Assault- Newark

Newark- The Delaware State Police have arrested 41-year-old Matthew Hensley of Newport for felony assault.

On June 29, 2020, at approximately 9:35 p.m., troopers responded to 4651 Ogletown Stanton Rd., Newark, for a reported assault. Upon arrival, troopers made contact with the 62-year-old victim of Wilmington. It was determined the victim is the facilities worker at Wawa and was taking the trash out to the dumpster when he observed Hensley panhandling in the Wawa parking lot. Hensley then fled the area on foot and was located nearby at a DART bus stop. Hensley was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 6, where he was charged with Assault 2nd Degree (felony).

Hensley was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution on a $2,500.00 cash bond.
