*Update*- Troopers Investigating Serious Crash Involving a Pedestrian on South Dupont Hwy. and Lochmeath Way – Dover

Dover- The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred this morning.

The incident occurred on June 26, 2020, at approximately 8:46 a.m., when a Toyota Highlander proceeded on S. Dupont Highway from the stop light at the intersection with Lochmeath Way, Dover.  A pedestrian, who was a Delmarva Power employee had stopped his vehicle on the southbound shoulder of S. DuPont Highway just south of Lochmeath Way and activated a yellow flashing amber light that was attached to the top of his vehicle. The pedestrian was wearing a florescent yellow safety vest, had left his car parked and began walking north of his vehicle.

The operator of the Highlander indicated that while he was driving southbound, his vehicle began to experience problems.  The operator proceeded to pull onto the southbound shoulder where he subsequently struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 20-year-old male from Wildwood Crest, NJ, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Highlander, a 33-year-old male from New Castle, DE, was transported to the Kent Bayhealth Hospital where he was treated and released with minor injuries.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collison Reconstruction Unit.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
